He's a #5 being paid like a high end #2.

He has never been very good. He was hyped for years based on his raw talent.

Every offseason we seem to romanticize the below average careers of Sabre players expecting the multiple years of bad or average play to somehow dissapear.

im surprised he took a 1 year deal. its going to be pretty tough for him next year with the D likely taking more risks and being more active offensively.

The year before he was bad outside a 20 game stretch to end the year.

The year before that he was a healthy scratch at times before the trade was made to bring him here.

If Housley can work his magic and make him a reliable top 4 guy, that would be amazing, I just don't see it.

Correct. And he seems to be one of those guys that doesn't easily just jump back into "Game speed" after absences. If he was, the amount of time he misses would be less of an issue. However, it takes him weeks to settle back in. And by then, you may get a few games, possibly a week or two of strong, consistent play before he ends up with some other ailment and misses time again.
