A MacDonald buyout in 2019 seems almost as inevitable as the Umberger buyout. Both are two years long and cost around $3.1m total against the cap.
BUYOUT CAP HIT
19-20 $1,166,667
20-21 $1,916,667 - Feanor
Anyone know how it would affect the Flyers if the Flyers were to trade Mac and retain salary at some point and then he was bought out by another team on the last year of his deal?

Once they trade him, they're on the hook for the retained amount regardless of what happens, I believe. The team that he was traded to would be responsible for the 1/3 amount remaining with them, and the Flyers would be on the hook for the full retained amount.

But in the case of Gagner, who comes to town with a $3.2 million cap hit, the negative ramifications for the Flyers to buy him out would be relatively minimal, for three reasons in particular.
Gagner's contract only has one year remaining, so there would only be two years' worth of buyout money on the Flyers' cap.
Since Gagner is currently 25 years old (he turns 26 in August), the Flyers would only have to pay out one-third of the value remaining on his contract to buy him out. (For players 26 or older, two-thirds of the value would have to be paid out.)
Gagner's cap hit is $3.2 million because the Tampa Bay Lightning -- who traded for him last summer before immediately dealing him back out to Arizona -- retained one-third of his salary in making that deal. Which means that Tampa would take on one-third of the cost of the buyout.
All of which boils down to this:
So the buyout cap hits shown on our buyout calculator would actually be split as: PHI: $422,222 and $555,555 TBL: $211,111 and $277,778

I think a team like Arizona with lots of cap space is a much more likely destination than a cap team like the Pens. - Feanor
Understand your point, but if you are close to a contender and have some significant defensive injuries to guys with big cap numbers (going to LTIR) then it would have to be a consideration. A man can dream cant he?
Off topic amongst all the music but boy howdy me and my bro were just fangirling over Bonds.
Dude is 1 of 4 people in the 40/40 club and put up a 1.4 OPS one year. Dude normally got on base at a 50-60% clip. Slugged .550-.750...averaged over .320

The thing that pisses me off most about Bonds if that he was a likely lock for the HOF without juicing. But his ego couldn't let him be anything other than second best, and he would do anything to make it that way. Plus I didn't like his racist comment. Dude can suck a bag full.

Don't remember the racist comment, steroids don't make you hit the ball with the bat.
The dude was a (frank)ing freak. Quickest bat of all time. Animal.

Lol and that was BEFORE steroids!
Obviously it wasnt, but it was at least before they altered his appearance

No, they don't. They allow your muscles to heal quicker, allowing you to increase power (or, at the very least, not fatigue it over a season). He's an absolutely amazing baseball player. He was going to go down as a top-10 all-time player. The fact that he knowingly took a banned substance to enhance his game in order to solidify his spot in baseball is equal to what Pete Rose did, in my book.
He said something to the effect of it being important that the top-2 career home run leaders were black, as I remember it. That never say well with me.

I still stand by it. He was (frank)ing incredible.
You think Daniel (frank)ing Nava could put those numbers up on steroids? (frank) no. Bonds is an all time great and one of the most exciting ballplayers ever, steroids notwithstanding

Felt like chiming in on the music talk. What do you guys think of Buckethead? I think Siege Engine is some of the best guitar playing I've ever heard. - EducatedOpinion
I like him. Not a huge fan of the overly experimental stuff but otherwise I like him a lot.

The roids extended Bonds' peaks and lessened his valleys over a 162 game season.
He was able to avoid the fatigue that occurs over a long season and thus avoid extended slumps. The skill was always there, even before he started juicing.

Its common for all athletes to improve as they age. Just look at Giroux. Prime example.

Same here, I first checked in now, and wish I was here for it.
I have the guitars of SRV, Dimebag and Zakk Wylde tattooed on my arm. Still love SRV and Dimebag...Zakk has dwindled a bit, mostly because of his last few albums, but I did get the tattoo 12 years ago and he was still trying to write new material back then.
