Call me crazy but what about trading for Justin Faulk? He's only 25 and on a great contract for 3 more years. Plus he's right handed and a legit top pairing D. It will cost us Marner, I know I know, but we will have to give up something good. This will allow us to resign JVR to a deal similar to Oshie's. Lineup would be:

Komarov Kardi Brown
JVR Bozak Kappy
Martin Moore Hyman

Reilly Faulk
Gardiner Zeitsev
Hainsey Carrick

Yeah, as good as Marner is, I highly doubt he'd be enough by himself for Pietrangelo.

I honestly think at this point we just have to hope we've got some defensive gems in the system that will turn into the players we need.
Otherwise we may need to borrow Chiarelli in a year or two to trade some of our best players for half decent defensemen.

It all depends on what stage your franchise is in. For the Leafs, I would keep Marner for the next decade instead of taking Pietr for 3 years. It's a no brainer.

For the Blues who have a heavy veteran/prime age lineup they would probably hold onto Pietr.

I think Marner's ceiling is a tad higher. Nylander is a year older, and was never as small as Mitch is, so that's going to make a difference.

I think coming season, it will become clear that Marner will be quite the better player compared to Nylander.

Nylander a #1 scoring RW.

Marner will be an elite player in NHL though. (he's closer to McDavid, Matthews, Eichel, than to Nylander imo).

Yeah maybe...but the Trolls were telling us for years that the Oilers would never win because they were too afraid to lose a trade even I feel it meant we improved our team, and that we had all these forwards and no defenders.....then PC does that, our defence has some depth finally and overall is pretty good , and the mungers turn around and say PC is a moron for doing exactly what they said he should....I'm not sure I'll ever understand This place.
