the leafs were ready to trade down with columbus to #8...i'm guessing they thought werenski or provorov would be there.

I like Werenski, alot, I like Marner even more - so happy the way it turned out.

If you trade Marner you better get Gretzky and Orr coming back our way. |

I'm probably alone, but I'm happy with the group we have going into next year.
Lots of competition on the wing and D that'll sort itself out with trade deadline deals, injuries, or minors for some of the waiver exempt guys.
Plus I'm pretty excited to see what Calle Rosen can do. Take it for what it's worth, but Ville Leino said he was the best skater he's ever played with, which includes Lidstrom, Giroux, Briere, etc.
Also, I think Carrick has more to give/prove; could surprise us as that #4 RHD we've been pining for. Beats the hell out of giving up Marner for one.

Why would the Leafs trade Marner for a 56yrs or 69yrs old player? |

In future discussions, let's leave out the Franson name. Can't see one thing that he could make us better at. Just a turnstile at this point in his career. |

He currently is. I see no reason why that couldn't stay the same.
That's not a knock on Marner either - I love that kid. Hell, Marner is on the back of my jersey. I just think that Nylander has the edge. |

His shot suppression is actually pretty elite; great shot too.
If we needed a 6 RHD, I'd sign him, but we have a good group fighting for spots now. |

I think Marner's ceiling is a tad higher. Nylander is a year older, and was never as small as Mitch is, so that's going to make a difference. |

I see them as being pretty much the same in almost all aspects, but Nylander has the better shot. Mitch has better defensive instincts, but there's no reason why both can't improve significantly there.
Momst important is that we have both of them. Plus Matthews. Plus Liljegren. Everybody else can suck it |

I love that we can argue about which young, rising star is better
Also Maatta can (frank) right off |

I'm actually with you on this. Nylander doesn't get enough credit for anything but his shot. The kid is fast, can pass, is shifty, does pretty well along the boards, his passing is grade A....he's a legit player.
Marner's no slouch. I waffle between the two. But right now Nylander by a female genitalia hair.
(I do think Marner is going to impress next season. More confidence, more hair on his balls and not getting sick will really help him out.) |

Matthews the better player (by a small margin)
Marner creative play will make it more fun to watch him |

His stupid spin around, back passes to the opponent that he does four times a game sure aren't very fun to watch... |
