2 words... rum ham.
- RealityChecker

I was backpacking in the middle east (27 years ago) and got so (frank)ing sick. Dropped down to 145lbs. Crawled back to England to recover at my relatives and they fed me this thing called suet pudding. Basically deep fried balls of lard and bread as far as I can tell. I put 20 pounds on within a month.

No need, I'll just give it to Don. He seems to know people within the org. That's what he indicates anyway.

I've never had a problem with Dragon. I actually thought people were being tough on him. But he's definitely got a way of pushing buttons.

I think he changed when his avatar changed.

Edit: Hey Dragon, change that (frank)ing avatar would you?!

Ahhhhh replacing the Sedins with two more Swedes, how pumped are you Vantal?

if they extend the Twins, there's a chance PP1 could look like this....

Sedin, Sedin, Petterson
Dahlen, Edler (or Loui)

you better tuck that bonner into your waistband bud

I have had a few drinks with Jake in yaletown. He is a nice kid....just into chicks and drinking more than hockey unfortunately. Let's hope his humbling year in Utica has changed him

I don't think the AHL is humbling. It's a pro league and he's making $70,000 while basically training and developing. Lots of pro athletes have to pay for their own training and developing. I think it's a good gig for a 20 year old.

I think his stint on the world junior team was humbling.

I disagree, I think it wasnt a great time for him, but WJC's came with a bunch of excuses that people offered when he faced criticism. Going to the minors after spending a year in the NHL and failing to make a team that did very little to offer competition for his spot and then being passed over for all the needed call ups AND failing to produce much of anything in the lower league has to be much more humbling IMO

Can you be humbled and disinterested at the same time?

Competing on the world stage and coming away with only criticism of your play would be hard to take. Especially after having a good to great amateur career.

His lack of production in the AHL is a symptom of indifference or distracted youth. Is he really feeling insignificant playing in the AHL or is it the opposite? Maybe he feels superior and it's not his fault that he's stuck in the AHL.

I have no idea what the answer is. I'm just taking shots in the dark.

Agreed the world stage was a big one, but I remember reading the coddling he received when he returned. Everyone kept telling him he was great, not to worry about it, etc. If you already have an ego problem, everyone telling you that youre great isnt a humbling thing (if I remember correctly, he has some sort of smug social media post in retaliation to it too?)

I think youre right about the indifference aspect. But I also think that entering his contract year, he cannot afford to spend another year down there. He now knows its a very real possibility that he negotiates his next deal off of 14 points in 65 NHL games, and whatever he can add to 19 points in 67 AHL games. It will cost him millions if he cant focus

I agree the money issue between NHL and AHL is humbling. He could be making $1.7M this season in the NHL or $70,000 in the AHL. But in reality $70,000 is a hell of a wage for a 20 year old.

Tangent: This is the problem with the fantasy world that these huge pro contracts have created. It makes it hard for me to feel any sorrow for these kids when they make more at the bottom of their pay scale than most Canadians earn.

I recently met this ex pro player who 20 years ago was making $75,000 as a fighter in the minors. He said he was more than happy to play in the minors at that pay scale and not work too hard for it. It got me thinking about players that have the skill to be in the NHL but maybe not the drive to do it.
