Stop with the false narrative.. It was his price for an arbitration term. Getting that price for five years, rather than 1 or 2, isn't settling on Zib's term. There is a big difference, and the more years a guy signs for, buying up free agent years, there more he's going to get annually.
- Pete V

Always have to pay more to lock up UFA years long term. That's why Brassard asked for 4.75mm in arbitration but signed a long term deal worth 5mm per.

I know that. But didn't Z submit a number close to the 5.3 marker? Idk why each party to even have a hearing if they were both willing to settle.
- tomburton99

They settled because they had a deadline forcing them to.

suddenly you have no idea wtf is going on

trolling 101

Z signed. Closer to his value than what the Rangers were willing to offer if a hearing had taken place. Why even choose the hearing route if they just settled on deal. A deal that many people here wanted and were closing to nailing to a T.

They settled because the arbitration hearing set a hard deadline that forced them to settle.

So the Rangers played a theoretical game of chicken and lost.

Pretty happy about Z signing. Idk why all the grandstanding was necessary from the Rangers though. Which is what I asked.

there was no grandstanding

there were people blogging about it and tweeting about it nonstop that had nothing to do with the Rangers

this is not grandstanding by the organization

Trying to keep the cap hit as low as possible. Idk why every RFA, sans Mcdonagh has to go arbitration route to get a contract.

there was no way he was going to get a 5 year contract extension and the cap hit be below 5 million a year, not happening, arbitration or not

Glad a deal got done. Idk why they had to go to arbitration if they just settled on Z's price though.

Right. They should have just negotiated a deal from the beginning until waiting to last minute. Like always.

It is kind of funny, I think Tom could say good morning and people would go after him. Like Pavlov's dog now.

I actually was thinking the same thing along what Tom said. I'm happy Zib is signed but why go through all this if the agreed is closer to what Zib was looking for.

Also get what Pete was saying, but shouldn't the price have went a little lower since it was a 5 year deal.

Hopefully we sign Thornton at the deadline.

What's happening between you and your beloved NYR then, Burton?
