Surprised they went all the way to Ziba's asking price and not in between, no problem with the term of AAV, let the dominoes fall

I think there's 3 mil in space, so unless they buyout Staal, that should end the Bozak talk

if you trade Holden's 1.65 mil, and then replace him with Pionk's 925K, how is it enough?

I keep seeing people saying getting rid of Holden's cap hit solves the problem but nobody realizes somebody has to take his spot

OFFICIAL: #NYR have agreed to terms with restricted free agent forward Mika Zibanejad on a five-year contract with an AAV of $5.35 million.

- jimbro83

Will post my take later, as out running errands and tied out most of the day, but think my view on this is well-known.

Waaay better than a crappy 1 year deal.

I'll take Zibby's 5.35 over Step's 6.5 all week

Its not the term, I wanted 5 years, its the fishnagles

was expecting 5x$5.5M so that is a win for me.

I said 5 years/$5.25 million per, so this is right about where I expected.

I think it's a good deal, and may look like a steal sooner rather than later.

I agree. at $5.3M the expectation is 53 points - generally $100k per point. Zib should eclipse that rather soon.

right now, according to cap friendly, we have 12 forwards, 7 defensemen, 2 goalies on roster, with 3 million available in space

one of those 12 forwards is Jesper Fast, he is out at least a month, so you absolutely need to add a 13 forward

you can get rid of Holden somehow, but are they really going to only go with 6 defensemen?

I don't see the cap space for Bozak unless they are buying out Staal

I will include this in column later, but of Fast misses 10 games and/or 20 days, can put him on LTIR, freeing up cap room at least until he returns. Now that Zib has signed, believe the team has a 48-hour buyout window, so we will know very shortly if Staal will be bought out. My money is on no.

I don't believe they would go into the season capped out, got to have some wiggle room for callups

they have to buyout Staal to add another significant piece, or trade a different forward away

I personally think the team is done. we are going into training camp as is. Andersson is our 3C, Boo and DD compete for 4C. ADA and Holden compete for 5/6 spot with Staal playing on the left of bottom pairing.

I have felt like this for awhile, maybe they'd have a UFA forward in camp on a tryout

thank goodness Klein retired or we'd actually be in cap hell

Agree, but remember, Toronto or anyone else can cover up to 50% of the salary in a deal. Plus, the team may just do what they did last year. Accumulate cap space to use at the deadline while leaving flexibility for in-season call ups.

Brass 2 more years for 5M per or Zibby's 5 years at 5.35M per?

don't look now, but the Rangers have 48 contracts, the Leafs have 49 without Connor Brown

I hate to keep poo-pooing this Bozak thing, but I have never believed it from the start

if NYR open with 8 D (including Holden, Bereglazov, DeAngelo) and 14 F (with Andersson, Nieves; Fast on IR) they will have $445,556 of space
