so, knowing this isn't for at least a couple of years, can we regroup and go over what your immediate demands for this team are? - jimbro83
Personally, I would go McDavid, JT and MacKinnon down the middle. Maybe get some role players to fill out the roster like Matthews, Benn, Tarasenko, etc. |

I want Karlsson and Doughty on the blueline
if we had McDonagh-Karlsson
Skjei-Shattenkirk
Smith-Doughty
I'd be freaking PSYCHED

well, you may as well at this point - jimbro83
Turris and Kane are UFA in 2018, so they are realistic. Skinner was an example for a high scoring winger I'd like to trade some combo of Hayes/Vesey/Pionk/Day for.
I also don't know if a return on Nash and Holden would be picks/prospects or NHL ready players, but I'd like them to be high end prospects, as our depth at Center and Wing is extremely weak.

Get Smith off there and replace him with Parayako I think we will be set. |

let me let you in on a little secret about Jeff Skinner.
He had a NMC clause start on July 1st, so chances are, if Carolina was ever going to trade him, they would have done before July 1st, just like the Rangers did with Stepan.
Now, Skinner, has two seasons left before he is a UFA, just keep this is mind when you are trading all of our youth for him |

I thought this was going to be something good, just TSN reiterating a Brooks comment

I actually don't mind keeping Holden. I didn't realize he is only signed through this season. He put up decent points and I think if he was paired with someone halfway decent he could be a solid offensive minded defenseman. If he plays well he will probably price himself out of the range of what NY will be able to pay. |

only if they magically made Staal disappear (buyout)
if Staal and Holden are both here they are in the way, these young guys have to have a chance |

"explore trading him now." nyrangers9479 - tomburton99
Next season no way would I feel comfortable giving a 30 year old with an injury past 5+ years at 7 million plus. We'd be paying him for past performance. |

That is totally true. But this is the unfortunate future that we are looking at to start the season. |

I think Holden will be gone, they could very well hang onto him throughout training camp though and trade him to a team that suddenly has an injury bug on the blueline |

That is probably for the best. Get a possible over payment for him or at least market value. |

I am not sure what the Blackhawks have planned to round out their blueline, but as of now, capfriendly only has them with 5 defensemen on active roster, including the great Rozsival
could be a place Holden ends up, he knows the conference, could give them solid minutes relatively cheaply |

All my specs were for 2018 season. The games played by Shestyorkin was in response to another question, but to be clear I don't expect Shestyorkin to play 50% until 2020 at earliest |

Skinner is the same age as Hayes and a year older than Vesey. Yes, 7/1 NMC does have an influence on a trade decision, and he would be due a pay day in two years. He was an example of a high scoring winger that we need.
Since 2012 when Gaborik had 41, we've only cracked 30 goals by one player once with Nash in 2015 (42). |

I just don't see a turnover like you are thinking remotely possible. Never mind if its even possible under the cap.
JT will probably be at a .01% to hit the UFA market. Either the Isles re-sign him or he is going for a haul to a team that will in all likely hood sign him.
You are also gutting the Rangers youth. Could I see one of the younger Rangers wingers going somewhere for a trade, possibly, but no way the Rangers are jettisoning all their youngsters
