Tell you what, RD - how bout a couple rounds in the old ring first, then a game of chess...
You actually play chess, or are you trying to set me up with a pro...?

I'll dance with you in the octagon any day. You got UFC 2 for Xbox?
there was no way he was going to get a 5 year contract extension and the cap hit be below 5 million a year, not happening, arbitration or not - jimbro83
I actually felt that had he gone to arbitration, the award could have been as low as the $4.5M original projected range, due to last season's injury. But he had the advantage in pre arbitration over them due to their still desperate need at center, after the trade of Stepan.
Did they get Dumba & Coyle for him?
Oh, wait a second. That was for Stepan instead.
How could I or anyone here almost forget that one, Tom? - RangerSaver
So the Rangers played a theoretical game of chicken and lost. - tomburton99
I think what Tom was trying to convey here was that as opposed to being able to hold their stance this time, (like they were able to for 4 years at slightly lesser money & term than offered elsewhere for the Shatty signing, in knowing he really only wanted to be a Ranger), this time Zib held the cards in his favor, for the Rangers wanting to settle without arbitration. This was due to both parties knowing the Rangers desperate need to replace Stepan at center. That, despite him coming off his broken fibula injury, causing him to miss about 2 months, by which the Rangers had likely felt that Zib would be worried with the Rangers standing firm as with Shatty, until the last possible second.

You enjoy to dissect things. Nothing wrong with that, but I don't think that broken fibula was the centerpiece in these negotiations. It was Zibby's evil brother pushing for the big $$ and nothing more. To get 5 years was a win for the NYR imho...!

Oh yeah. If the Rangers had gone through with arbitration, we'd probably have a two year deal with Zib right now at around 4.6 for sure.
You,"nyrangers9479", are asking the wrong person. But with no offense to Tom, you must know so yourself already to want a second opinion from someone. You must also want to know the same as to both Dumba's & Coyle's, after not liking Stepan's.
