I disagree, just for the fact I don't trust Zib yet. Would have liked to see more consistancy. - mdw7413
...and that he will indeed be more consistent, while also remaining fully healthy for at least this upcoming season.
That's also why the Rangers would want to sign Zib for only this upcoming season, along with their benefit of retaining his RFA status for the following 2018/19 season if arbitration became the necessary solution method. |

I've been saying lock him up for 7 or 8 years for weeks now and got killed for it. - nyrangers9479
I admit that I was one of the number of members who disagreed with you, due in chief to Zib coming off his broken fibula injury, (& possibly another undisclosed one in relation), despite apparently returning unaffected to action. In addition, their holdup stance of the 4 years term to sign their #1 off season need in Shatty, has many believing that they are shying away from handing out 5+ years term deals any longer. That would be outside of to a "can't miss" player, especially if either just prior to or beginning in their prime years. If not that case, then maybe it was due to his 4 years term ending at age 32, and/or in the same season that any other Ranger is currently signed as long until (Hank, Staal, & Smith).
I also wrote on an earlier blog, that a team would be more so wise to lock a player up for a 5+ years term, first with a top young established d'man, or a younger top foreseen one like Skjei, due to them being at a premium, in contrast to the greater number of top young forwards around, except for the elite.
At this time, they have not yet "locked up Zib for 7 or 8 years". If they do & should Zib at any point either (or all), not produce enough, not play consistently well, &/or possibly also slow down in speed due to that injury or more affecting his ability, you should make a promise to Rangers fan members here, that you will not post on every blog:
1) "TRADE ZIB", and ...
2) "I TOLD YOU ALL MANY TIMES THAT WE COULD HAVE TRADED ZIB FOR ____?____". |

That was (as I mentioned) only if the case were to reach arbitration, because they have the right to select the number of years, since Zib was the filer for arbitration.
Yesterday, I had said that I would have given him up to 4 years at $4.65M annually (vs. Zib's $5.35M demand), and that an arbitration dollars decision would likely favor the Rangers, in being possibly $4.5M, as opposed to their $4.1M offer, due to Zib's serious injury suffered last season.
Due to that broken fibula (& possibly some undisclosed one in relation), I initially thought the holdup was only due to the term length. Given that, and their need to still acquire another center, I had first felt that they should go $5.25M, in not knowing Zib's actual dollars demand, nor even more, his term length wanted. However, I can't see any more than 4 years in term being the case.

If I'm wrong I'm wrong but even at a long term rate maybe he gets around 5.5? He's a 50 point player with a much higher ceiling in my opinion. Not slow, fat, scared of contact and unemotional except when yelling at his own teammates.

New possible center we could get...wait for it..... STASTNY outta St lou
last yr of 4 yr deal in St lou ....better #'s than Step
St lou made trade for Braydon Schenn...have 5 D men + prospects for season
could see a Staal/Holden + prospect for Stastny... I Like it alot
end of yr depending you Nash & Stastny $$ to get one of those top F A ccenters
coming out next yr.
He could have big yr and we keep BUT along with other options for centers
we need to address this asap..not sleeping well till Gorts settles roster for camp
not close yet with BIG hole in middle
I still chuckle how we sign an 18 yr old and the articles start as an option to make team .... cant stop chuckling ..... Boo Nieves is abetter option ..I lke BOO.!!! |

welp, we can't really comfortably fit Bozak's 4.2 million cap hit, so Stastny's 7 million cap hit should fit a lot better

Nobody wants Staal. Packaging him with Holden is like wrapping a turd in newspaper. Gonna take more than that to get Stasny. |

I really think it would be more appealing for a team to take a turd in a newspaper rather than a Staal/Holden combo in a deal |

The Rangers and Chris Kreider reached their long-term contract accord last year at 9:30am. Will we get a repeat of a similar agreement between New York and Mika Zibanejad today? |
