While that's true, it's an awfully illogical way of justifying overpaying someone.

Better players are making less

- sbroads24

But can u trade Kane for one of these "better players making less" though?

If so... ok, great
If not... gotta replace that scoring, physical play, forecheck, etc

A lot of times...
the option is either to overpay,
or swap in a worse player

Can't operate in a vacuum where u never overpay
There's pretty much always gonna be a better player making less than _____

Yes, you can replace his 39 point average over the past two years without paying 6 mil for it

In Arvidsson and Tatar, sure. Not in Oshie's and he's coming off two better years, and signed for less than 6 per.
- sbroads24

Oshie took a discount to stay on a very good team
That factor doesn't exist here,
be it with Kane or whoever

Please enlighten us all how we replace his goals
Especially even strength,
Bc you're always quoting 5v5 stats

By having a better blue line, and better coaching.

Are we going to act like he's winning the Rocket Richard trophy again?

He scored 28 goals, staying slightly healthier than he usually does, and shooting at almost 3% higher than he usually does

Ok...
we can just sign Versteeg & call it a day then

A better blue line & better coaching should also raise Kane's stats...
should it not?

No. We can let our own drafted players develop and call it a day.

With the contracts being signed this offseason show, paying Kane big money would not be the smart move. Unless he wants a 2/3 year deal

We could also sign Kane AND let our draft picks develop
I'm not saying we HAVE to sign him
But if your plan is Bailey will score 25ish goals...
well, we just don't know
I'm hopeful for guys like him, Baptiste, etc

Wouldn't we be even deeper though if they turned out good & we kept Kane?
Especially bc these guys are young...
you'd think they'd be more effective against lesser talent than they would if they slid into Kane's spot

Doesn't everyone on here say we need more FINISHERS?
Well, Kane can finish
So I'm not getting rid of him without a replacement plan

You're acting like he's a number 1 center and we need a contingency plan.

He's a 40 point winger. They are signed, traded and traded for every year.

Yeah, and the Sabres are by no means bound by some imaginary contract to give Kane a raise. If he gets a raise it's from another team. Period.

They haven't even signed Eichel yet. They are in 0 rush to hand their 40 point enigmatic winger a raise

U can describe him as a "40point winger" to try & downplay his goal scoring all u want...

But saying a guy who scores 25ish goals, and nearly all of them at even strength, is "easily replaceable" is a misrepresentation

You're just wrong & trying to twist it bc u don't like Kane
Go ahead & list all the guys who had more even strength goals than Kane this past year

Seriously... when have u gone a week without talking smack?

I didn't say they were. It's a raise only in cap space, which isn't insignificant, if he's signed for $6M. But he will sign a contract for at least $6M per for at least a few years, maybe there's some back diving to get the cap number down, but he's not going to take a pay cut after his performance the last 2 years.

Can't his numbers and play increase and improve with better coaching and D too? BTW I thought you weren't sold on Bylsma being the problem?

JB's last interview

Eichel is first priority
Lehner is second
Reinhart will wait until next year

0 mention of Kane

He's not being extended here....

We have an 8 year sample of Evander Kane.

Playing under 3 different coaches, different lines and centers. He is who he is.

In describing Kane as a "40 point player" when his defining characteristic is his GOAL SCORING

U do that to obviously twist it to appear to better fit your viewpoint

Would u describe Joe Thornton as a "7 goal scorer"
Of course not
Bc even though it's true, describing him like that makes it sound like we'd be better off with Foligno

That's exactly what u do to Kane

His value to the team comes with his goals
Especially at even strength
Which we obviously lack from others

Well then I guess NO ONE he mentioned has any pet in plans for our future
That's a really dumb basis to think you know his specific plans for Kane
