Indeed.

He should play with Matthews tho..

I'm not so sure we see a lineup most are predicting. Barring no trades here's my guess for opening night.

JVR Matthews Nylander
Marleau Bozak Marner
Komarov Kadri Brown
Martin Moore Soshnikov
Kap

I just don't think Sosh gets bumped in favor of Kap/Leivo.

Edit: I forgot Hyman... meh..

- Arctic_AARDVARK

Hard to say who does and doesn't make it yet, but I don't understand how sosh won't lose his spot for kap.... isn't that what happened in the playoffs?

Holy (frank)! Stop saying 50 contract limit. Stop talking about the late round draft picks who were left unsigned. That poop happens ALL THE TIME! For every team!

The 50 player limit does not affect the Leafs. FACT MOTHER(frank)ERS!(this is good vodka btw mother(frank)ers)

50 contract limit

Only one team at the limit. Us.

Time to flush some players not in our long term plans.

Didn't Sosh get injured and then Kap came in and played well enough to keep the spot? I like Kap and I think he should be in the NHL, but I also think Sosh paid his dues playing on the 4th line with a couple plugs all year.

Sosh should play with komo and kadri
That moves brown up in lineup
Kap moves up
= marner traded for Pietrangelo 👍

This is what I'd like to see:

Marleau Matthews Nylander
Hyman Kadri Brown
JVR Bozak Marner
Martin/Leivo Moore Kapanen
Martin/Leivo

Komarov: traded
Soshnikov: waived

This has three dangerous lines, two of which can take hard matchups, the 3rd a sheltered scoring line that can dismantle 3rd and 4th lines all day long.

Komarov moved because he's a UFA and is easily replaced by Hyman or Soshnikov's agitating/forechecking/puck pursuit/PK abilities; even Kap was taking away Komarov's PK minutes at the end of the year.

JVR stays because he puts up numbers that are not easily replaced by what we have.

Leivo might put up JVR numbers playing on that line, but there's no guarantee; Kapanen's probably ahead of him in pure skill (maybe not shot), but again, no guarantee that Kap puts up 25+ goals that JVR is good for.

I think Kapanen has more upside over Soshnikov, so of the waiver choices, Sosh makes the most sense.

I'd like Martin to sit a bunch next year if we're lucky on the injury front again. I don't see his game being needed all the time and it would give us a chance to really see what Leivo can do for a longer stint. Maybe if Leivo gets 35-40 games by trade deadline and is closing in on 15-20 goals, you decide to move JVR at that point.

You guessed wrong.

Hyman is nowhere near as useful as Bozak.. If you paid attention over the last few days you would have known that I strongly opposed all trade proposals for Bozak because the offers were far too low.

- Arctic_AARDVARK

Well i apologize. The regulars hate on beausac so much it leads me to believe..

I'm thinking Bozak resigns with us for 4 years and just keeps his 4.2 mil. He could easily get 5.5 on the open market but i believe he is a leaf for life.

I hope you're right.

His face off skillz and quick release in front of the net have made home an asset. He's just a reliable well rounded player and hardly takes penalties.

On Beauchemin...

Lou Lamoriello has always liked Francois and there are some murmurs he could join the Leafs on a training camp tryout....However the Canucks have been trying to get something done here too...

EK

Was there not someone on here yesterday or the day before joking about signing Blowshemin? Now its a EK rumor

I highly doubt it: you move guys like that for whatever you can and replace them from within. He's going to want a raise and he'll probably get it on the open market; paying guys like Komarov 3M+ a year is how you get into cap trouble.

Let somebody else pull a Shaw (or a Martin ) and overpay for a role player.

We'll see...takes a few types of players to make a team.

I like the way we look now, but who knows!!! ( at the forward position )

Toronto for Tampa If tavares ends up becoming available, leafs will be all over it for sure like they were for Stamkos, they will make the offer and go about their day. Dont go too much in depth about cap space, because they can make the necessary trades to get where they need to be and obtain assets in the long run. We have about 27M in capspace next season ready to unleash for another good run. If JT becomes available, that means no bozie, jvr, or komarov. Does Kadri get traded? Perhaps. Does another winger get dealt? Perhaps. But could happen the following summer. We will need to resign though nylander and leivo for sure though.

Hyman Matthews Nylander

Marleau Tavares Marner

Leivo Kadri Brown

Martin _____ Kapanen

- Matthewz1992_

I honestly thing the only top tier UFA the Leafs will push for is if Doughty hits the open market. And he will make a stoooooopid amount of money. Probably not here.

Idk about matthews at 11 ish? And John at 10? Nylander 5.5 to.6.5? Marner the same area? It could be done but I just don't see it? That would be paying J.T. for 10×10ish idk? They would talk to his camp and do diligence, but if he's not resigned then they better trade him for something cause losing him for nothing would be a dooms day senieo for that club! What free agent of any quality would ever sign there unless a huge overpayment! Snow should of grabbed jvr and resigned him for 6×7 and called it a day!

If the leafs go into the season not trading jvr it'll be fun watching that group of forwards
- burn

I kinda wish we could just resign him to a team friendly contract, cause the depth would be incredible! Anything is possible, but highly unlikely! But agreed if still here along with bozak the opposition goalies should be having fits! three top scoring lines!

I know eh! It sucks someone have to go! To many and imo leivo is going to be a really good player! Better hands than shosh, shosh better defense? and plays harder than brown shosh and kappy! Imho it's a nice spot to be in but frustrating at the same time! Training camp will determine alot I imagine, and the above mentioned players better bring their A game! And I truly believe that Marleau will play with matthews,he does what hyman does just so much better and scores!

I am amazed that nobody ever brings up Palmieri. He was misused at the start of last season and when they finally started utilizing him properly, he exploded. The guy is 26, has great numbers and now with the team improving around him they won't be able to keep him down. He should easily be a 30-30 man this year.

He could resign for a somewhat team friendly contact! With having a young family, but on the other hand, in free agency he could also cash in with a team willing to give him more money and term!so they'll have to know for sure! Cause losing jvr or bozak for nothing
