i don't think he wanted a rebuild
- IndianaSabresFan

he said they would get better, it won't happen overnight

my guess is the day soupy got traded months later was when the rebuild started

nope

and america falls short on the bottom 2 lines and their top line is never as good as other decent teams

stars need to line up perfect and near flawless goaltending for usa to compete with the big boys

- homiedclown

I actually edited my post to include forward depth where it might be even worse, before I saw yours. My bad
Strongly AGReed on bottom 6. But yeah, not sure that your top end is way less.
Is anyone save Connor or sid better than Kane ?

I think the rebuild was a direct result from
max, kotalik, and connolly(not playing)

and soupy being traded

Hmmm

Maybe Canada's. But way worse than malkin- kucherov? U might have a point there, but it's not huge. They tend to lack other tools even if they have high offensive talent.
Or swedens? Who is even their top line now with the sedins past their prime ?

And Even If I'm willing to concede, I don't think that assumption holds for long with eichel, Matthews and gaudreau .

Nor should you expect to in the future. Ennis could bounce back into a top9 role, but this 2C dream that they're sailing to the Minnie fans is nuts.

if ennis gets put back on the wing and his head is alright he could be a decent winger in a scoring role. Foligno is a 3/4 winger and ennis is probably a 3 at this point..

Couple things, and not that either should be a deterrent from the decision making 1 way or another:

1. When amateurs start playing again, get ready for the endless mantra of "well, if Canada had *insert player x*, they would have won gold easily" every time they don't win gold, just like in the World Juniors.

2. I actually don't think the condensed schedule is a bad thing. The lack of practices actually made more of the games fun to watch, at least among the good teams anyway. Coaches didn't have time to coach the fun out of the game.

It's funny. The Canadian domination is a relatively new thing other than like 80 years ago when they were the only ones playing. The Soviets won 8 of 10 gold medals from 56 to 92. And then Sweden won 2, Czechs won 1, US won 2. Canada couldn't even qualify in 72 and 76. And only had 3 medals, 2 bronze and a silver from 56-92. That's pretty pathetic. The US had 4, 2 gold, 2 silver in the same time period.

No issues with Ennis as a 3W, but even the guys from NHL Tonight were talking about him as if 2C was a realistic option for him...I just don't see it, even if healthy.

Well Canada sure is making up for it now, I don't see any team competing with their roster.

It will be fun to see (hopefully) a Kane Eichel Matthews pp

Tatar signed 4 year $21.5m
Redwings are currently projected $3M above the ceiling.
They have 2 unsigned RFAs remaining: Athanasiou & Russo

True but I think in a few years it will be closer if the US can get some good defensemen going

Ennis is in trouble because he really doesn't fit into a 3rd line checking role and he he can't produce enough on his own to be effective on the 4th line. He needs to be in the top 6 to be successful. Whether he can stick in that role will depend on his health. I think he's still a 20g25a guy if he's healthy

Comic book movies are generally terrible. I can name only a few that are good and Sam Raimi's Spider-Man 2 captured the essence of comics in film form better than any comic book movie I have seen.

With Nino, Parise, Granlund, Zucker, Koivu, Staal, Coyle and Ek on the team...I just don't see a top 6 spot. I can see him getting 20 if he was top6, had PP minutes and could stay healthy. Unfortunately, given his teammates, the physicality of the western conference and his lack of production for 2 years...I don't see how even a healthy Enzo gets 20gs or 40+pts.

Foligno was the worse loss for me by a long shot, we'll put it that way. I hope I'm wrong about Ennis, he's one of the guys I met and he's got an infectious personality. Very kind and engaging for his age.
