We have a winner. "Zhow Ay Zhoo No" put up 70 assists in 92/93.

LOL, I remember they used to liken him to Oates a lot when he first broke in, then he just kind of faded away.

So many names, just from the Flyers, could fill in that blank

Rick Lapointe
Al Hill
Jiri Latal
Joe Patterson
Vyacheslav Butsayev
Petr Bondra
Kerry Huffman

Kerry was a serviceable NHL Defenseman and now is coaching in Lehigh

Oates was my only guess but knew it was wrong given the hints. I have heard of Juneau through video games, but I didnt become obsessed with watching/following hockey until the richards/carter calder run

I think Patrick, Weal, Lindblom, and further growth of TK can help ease the pain. Not just for this year specifically
- arichardson22

I am going to say it.

Couturier will score 18-20 goals and 35-37 assists and play 79 games.

He was a decent player, he just never came close to equaling his rookie year.

But Washington did steal him for 12 games worth of Al Iafrate.

Long time reader, first time poster. Thanks for all the fantastic summer reads and insights Bill. Truly a highlight of the day to read some great in-depth Flyers news, in the summertime no less.

One question that I keep thinking (not related to this article), with G's and Voracek's decline in production, why isn't Hakstol more and more on the hot seat? Albeit he has to make due with the players he has, and can only surround Giroux with what he has available, but maybe he's coaching style is... does Hak go after this season if we under perform. I know he was brought in as a great coach for the younger players, but is he failing the older ones?

- bmoreflyer

Holy man you nailed it. Hakstol is the only coach that survived a shat show and he deserved to be fired for an amateur coaching performance. Then I wonder if he is coaching or Hextall giving him orders??? Haks coached Hextall's son and they are close friends and that excuse is not good enough for me. As a Flyer fan I want to win. I believe that the vets do not like him at all. Giroux and Voracek looked like they were just going through the motions to get they year over. Simmonds an nhl allstar and a star in the game comes back and does nothing in the last quarter, I mean nothing. Something really wrong here, Haks gets no respect from the refs, he complains and they skate away with a smirk. I see it but Hex does not. As much as want the Flyers to win next year I seriously have my doubts and Hakstol and Hextall could both be canned. Mark my words.

92/93 was when I got into hockey because of Lindros. That's also when I began my hardcore hockey card collecting. Had some many rookies of Juneau, Selanne, and Lindros pulled. Nowadays, almost every card from 1990-1995 is worthless (there are a few big exceptions).

Hakstol had nothing to fear the last few years. He and Hextall are probably safe until 2020 when the pipeline of prospects should be showing their worth in the NHL. Until then it was a clean slate for them.

Of course that won't sit well with the impatient must always win now fans of this fan base.

We're a very patient fan base and will allow our young players to develop as long as they're developing by exceeding expectations at the NHL level immediately after being drafted.

I had season tickets at RPI for a few years. Saw both Oates and Juneau there. Probably the reason for the comparison.

I remember the earlier teams just not as well as others. I was born in 87. I actually cared more about NASCAR than I did hockey

You know what's a really fun exercise?

Spend a few hours typing a tradelist of cards. Stop after you've listed all of your 05/06 cards, and then talk about your 2005 Honda Civic.

Giroux was the same player in the World Cup and World Championships before and after the season. I wouldn't attribute his struggles to coaching. That being said, I do think Hakstol is running out of runway to get the team on the right track. I think he will be vulnerable if they're not playing a strong consistent brand of hockey by January.
