I think they broke the Good Samaritan law.

I don't know....maybe there was a legitimate fear of alligators, but to not call 911 and mock the poor guy as he drowns is just unthinkable to me.

Those are not mutually exclusive, he could have taken Lehtera for both reasons - to make the deal work and because he liked him as a bottom six player for two seasons. We all know Hextall likes to make rookies earn their spots, so maybe his plan was to bring in another center during this offseason. Two birds, one stone type thing. That is just a hunch.

FWIW, I think Schenn's trade wasn't extra value, I think a top 6 forward who can score 25/25/50 + in his prime, signed to a reasonable contract for length is worth 2 higher first round picks. I think Hextall could have gotten a comparable trade from another team.

I didn't say he was training to be a body builder. I said working out properly and eating right but i really don't need your (frank)ing patronizing mansplaining whatever the (frank) that means. Since work is slow try reading before trying to be a wienerhead mansplaining!
- Konalover

Chill brah. I didn't mean any disrespect towards you, I just felt like writing that out because I was bored at work, and I happen to enjoy training.

Ryan Dzingel just got a contract much like Weal's from Ottawa (100k more)

He has a full NHL season under his belt (plus playoffs) and scored 32 points. I think Weal can certain surpass that, which means we get a discount based on his lack of NHL experience.

It was a good deal!

Good parenting is a lost skill
- Scoob

I don't think it is entirely lost. I know some good folks that are raising their kids to be both disciplined and respectful, but I do think the number of bad parents has risen sharply over the past 20 years.

Sadly, I think many of our societies problems can be tied to the combo of bad parenting and broken families. And, that is not to throw single moms and dads under the bus as I have a couple of close friends who are both single dads and they are both doing an amazing job with their kids. It's more about what I see every day in the low income area where I work. Way too often, kids in this neighborhood are being raised by grandparents or a single grandparents because the parents are out of the picture. This is a terrible trend and I wish I knew the answer to the problem.

I will say this however. We need a license to drive a car and often need one just to own a cat or a dog. Perhaps it's time to considering a requiring some type of license tied to parental training to have a child? It sounds horribly Orwellian and scary, but I just don't know what else to do.

I still believe Matt Read has trade value at 50 % salary retained. Might as well start acquiring draft picks for the 19 draft. Going to be very interesting to see what Hextall does with this roster. Sanheim can't wait to see what he does in preseason. I think he has a real chance to be the 2nd best dman in the organization eventually.
- ravishingone

If you're a team are you really giving anything up for Read? You fill holes like that with guys in your system. Not giving up an asset to take on someone else's problem.

"The kids were at the park that day smoking marijuana and apparently saw him walk into the water," Martinez told the newspaper. "They were watching him."

mmm hmmm

The Brevard County State Attorney's Office said in a statement that they are "deeply saddened and shocked" at the tragedy, but will not charge the teens.

"While the incident depicted on the recording does not give rise to sufficient evidence to support a criminal prosecution under Florida statutes, we can find no moral justification for either the behavior of persons heard on the recording or the deliberate decision not to render aid to Mr. Dunn," the office said.

According to CNN, the state of Florida does not have any laws requiring citizens to render aid or call for help for anyone in distress.

The article has a link to the video but I'm not going to post it and there's no way I want to watch it.

Agreed. Best chance of getting anything for a guy like Read is moving him at the deadline with 50% retention to a contender with multiple injuries in their bottom six.

You're probably right. Instead of calling teams and gauging interest, Hexy probably just drew St. Louis' name from a hat and offered to gift them Schenn for the low price of 2 1st rounders.

Yeah, that to me was an under valuing by the Caps.

Schenn and Johannson were similar players last season, almost identical possession stats.

But, Schenn is younger, and has one more year on his deal. Also, Johansson shot at 18%, which is 4% higher than any other season. Is it possible it stays up there, sure, but I don't think it will. Schenn has also had 2 years of 50+ points, while Johannson destroyed his point total this year by 11 points.

The Caps also got a 2nd and 3rd in the 2018 draft, which is supposed to be a better draft. Still to me, it's not enough. I don't think the Caps were in trouble in the cap?

Dzingel (who just got two years at $1.8m AAV) could be a comparable for Vecchione if MV does well. Dzingel is a year or two ahead in his development, though.

Dzingel
- Age 18: 67 points in 54 USHL games
- Drafted in the 2011 7th round by Ottawa
- Age 19: 24 points in 33 NCAA games
- Age 20: 38 points in 40 NCAA games
- Age 21: 46 points in 37 NCAA games, 7 points in 9 AHL games
- Age 22: 34 points in 66 AHL games
- Age 23: 36 points in 44 AHL games, 9 points in 30 NHL games
- Age 24: 32 points in 81 NHL games

Vecchione
- Age 18: 29 points in 49 USHL games
- Age 19: 60 points in 63 USHL games
- Age 20: 34 points in 38 NCAA games
- Age 21: 50 points in 39 NCAA games
- Age 22: 29 points in 34 NCAA games
- Age 23: 63 points in 38 NCAA games, 0 points in 2 NHL games
- Age 24:
