Bringing in Shatts is like bringing a knife to a gun fight.

No, bringing is Shatty was necessary given the current market.
Relying on Shatty to play 22+ minutes on the top pair is like bringing a knife to a gun fight. But, what else are we to do? Superstar RHD don't grow on trees.

guess "Islanderman" is jealous that MSG is an actual arena

I reported this by accident, I swear.

Maybe Islanderman is just a Richard.

I love Mac and all of us here know that he is underappreciated around the league. But, I don't expect he is enough to turn SKirk into a Lidstrom. That being said, I get what you're saying. I also expect SKirk to have a defensive renaissance so to speak. I just hope AV is open to shifting his pairings accordingly if necessary. First time for everything, fingers crossed!

I think Shattenkirk is going to help McDonagh's game enormously, I think one of Mac's problems the last couple of years has been he has felt the pressure to do everything

playing with a right handed partner who excels on the offensive side of the game is going to be a godsend for McDonagh's all around game

I see the same with both complimenting each other and making the whole top notch

I see Mike Fisher is waiting on a deal same as last yr with Nash. why not swoop in
and bring him in for a 1 + 1 deal just to have centers in camp? NO
cheap answer or temp answer until we thin out D corps for center -wing help

I think the Rangers need to get Zibby's contract done and then figure out their remaining space

I do know there is no chance that the Rangers will go into the season completely capped out

much more of a chance of going into season with between one and two million in space with 13 forwards, 7 defensemen and the two goalies

nope, not a chance

especially considering Fast won't play right away and they probably won't put him on LTIR

the question will be will they start with 14 forwards (including Fast) after training camp or 13 and just keep playing the same healthy 12 guys

this theory that if we trade Holden we create 1.65 mil in cap space is flawed

if we trade Holden and replace him with Pionk or Bereglazov, their cap hits are 925K each, so getting rid of Holden only gains 700K in space

if they replaced Holden with Kampfer, they'd gain a million in space

there has to be 7 defensemen on the opening night roster regardless

Why trade Holden? His cap hit is great and for what it's worth, he's not that bad (only when with Staal)

As a 7th D, I'd be okay with Kampfer. Though, I'd like to see what happens when the buyout window opens

if they actually do buyout Staal, then it's a whole new ballgame, then they would absolutely be adding another significant player

unless they do that though, I think they are going into camp as is

I don't want them to buyout Staal this year due to the horrible penalties towards the cap. We can all hope for a rebound season but that is probably a pipe dream.

I have no issue with that. Let one of the kids (or a tryout candidate) win the 4th line C spot.

I'm not thrilled about Miller as a center. Unless the added responsibilities will help keep him awake for the season AND post season, then I would leave him on the wing.

I don't see that happening either. Too much dead money being wasted. This is not the NY Icelanders.

Hope for a rebound season so he becomes a trade chip.

The 4 year Shatty term held to by Gorton in signing their #1 off season need, signifies that the Rangers want to hold away from Sather's extended 5+ years' term contracts if they can.
Accounting for two of the allowed arbitration considerations, in this case, a player's injury history, plus as Jan has shown, a comparable player recently signed to a new contract, the Rangers likely preference would be a 4 year deal at $5.25M, the probable maximum annual amount to be awarded Zibanejad. They could always later extend him prior to its expiration if remaining fully healthy & producing as expected. The $5M per year for 7 years given by Tampa to Tyler Johnson was excessive in term length, due to his past two seasons reduced production, caused a great part by injuries.
As rumored, the term years is the probable holdup with Zib likely seeking the $5.5M for 5 years instead. This would best be settled for both parties with a 4 year deal at $5.25 to $5.5M (if necessary) annually. If the money at $5.5M were the issue, then what could Zib later possibly demand for his next contract to follow, if both excelling in play over the expected, & remaining fully healthy throughout? ... Certainly at least in between Stepan's former $6.5M & Nash's expiring this season's end, $7.8M.
