I could see them signing a vet for a PTO.
Like Skille last year.
If they outplay the kids, they outplay the kids.
The more competition the better imo...as long as it ain't costing anything but FA's $.

I'm just being facetious. I'm in no rush to see any of the prospects suit up for the Canucks. The more borderline vets on 1 year contracts the better. And if they can be moved at the TDL, that wouldn't break my heart either.

I would love to see JV and Brock force their way onto the team this year.
I see lots more competition up front and have more faith (albeit slightly) that a forward can earn a spot.
With the limited D spots available, I have less faith that OJ makes it (although i'd be stoked if he did) and would also not cry if we signed a PTO back there.

I only cry when watching rom-coms or father-son type movies on long haul flights.

If I'm ever on a flight from New Zealand and I see some guy crying at a father-son rom-com, I'll probably not introduce myself. No offence, but safety first.

Shero on 2012 draft pick Alex Kerfoot, who can become an unrestricted free agent on August 15th.

“I talked to him a few days ago for a while. I think after the dust settled for free agency for a lot of teams, including ours, I think it was good to reconnect with him. Me, John Hynes and Fitzie had a conference call with him, and I explained to him again exactly where we were. I think it was a good reminder that we’d really like to sign him, but like anybody else, he controls the outcome until Aug. 15. I think it was a really good conversation and he’ll talk to his agent, and hopefully get back to us in the very near future. There’s not much more he can learn from us at this point, but I think it was a really good chance to reconnect with him when the dust settles after July 1 around the league and certainly with the Devils.”

Long read but local boy Kerfoot, who Van has interest in. Sounds like he has no interest in signing in NJ.

Add more to the prospect pool

Others may be in on him too. This guy, below article, thinks former Harvard limemate Veasy will draw him to the Rangers to fill center needs.

https://www.blueshirtbant...ll-rangers-void-at-center

Since he's not a top end talent people write off the significance. He seems to be another Molino type which can't hurt with need for speed. But he likens his development rise to favorite player Burrows. Maybe Kerfoot can challenge for fourth line Center. Adding a free agent to prospect pool with speedy playmaking abilities is great for competition and depth.

NJ can use him and Rangers may want him. But maybe he wants to try making it with rebuilding team back home. Family connection to Whitecaps may help marketing.

i'd be ok with Beauchemon on a PTO, our defense aint exactly deep.
Forward depth is a different story.
If i had a gun to my head and had to choose a UFA in a simliar age situation for a PTO, i'd probably go Doan.

Nothing to lose, no risk involved.
If they make it you sign em up. If a Pedan or JV is lighting it up in the AHL, sit the seniors down and let em 'coach' form the pressbox.

Beauchemin would probably make the team. Everybody says how bad he is because he was bought out. He was only bought out so Colorado didn't have to protect him.

He was playing 21 minutes a night on a really poopty Colorado team.

I think he could be real good playing with Stecher. Give him someone with tons of experience to play with.

Could make someone available for trade, with another forward that has lost a spot to a free agent signing.

I'm totally unsure of what kind of talent he is. He is a tad bit small for a center. I don't think he's anything other then AHL bound for any team.

Beauchemin would easily make this club. Cup winner and a decent mentor for Stecher. He can play tough hockey too when required. He's still good for 20-30 pts a year…don't see an issue bringing him in if cheap.

Cheap- mid.
Trevor Daley 3 years 3.16 AAV
Ron Hainsey 2 years 3 AAV
Dan Girardi 2 years 3 AAV
Matt Hunwick 3 years 2.25 AAV

Probably have to more out salary to take on his contract. Moving Hutton could use that on a year deal for Beauchemin.

How did Mackinnon, Duchene, Landeskog, Barrie, Ratanen, Johnson work out for Colorado?

Clearly it wasn't just Beauchemin's fault.

The best years are well behind Francois and Ben's career looks like it could be pretty good.

I don't think Ben's career is going to start to take off anytime soon. He's going to remain a good 5 D for most of his career. Those types are less expensive then a vet D man.
