Are you talking about the new one, or the second one? James Franco's character was only in the first movie. The latest movie is years later in the series, and Franco's character is considered dead. I can't imagine the movie is as bad as you're saying. The first and second were very good.
- simethos

It's highly possible that not having seen the second movie, and not being able to read the exposition text at the start of the movie (it was very small) made the movie seem worse than it was.

First of all people are "stuck" in the nineties because from 1990-1996 there were more classic level, all time great, albums made than any other time except the late 60s to early 70s. Everyone has heard of arcade fire just most people see them for what they are hipster garbage that ripped off elements of 10 other bands and called it their own. Your hatred of Dave Grohl is silly and unwarranted. The man is phenomenally talented. Not only can he play any instrument but he is constantly appearing on other bands albums and promoting new bands and helping them with their careers. You think you have better music perspective than Jimmy Page, John Paul Jones and 80 thousand Brits? I don't think so, not from what you have presented so far. https://youtu.be/H1bYW775sYw

1. the 1990-96 thing is objectively wrong. It was a decent era of music, especially because there were a lot of weird cool bands that got big and no era saw weirder bands get big label money, so I partly agree with you.

However the 1980s are objectively the BEST era for music of all time:

The Clash, REM, Talking Heads, Elvis Costello, Tom Petty, Joy Division , the Cure, the Smiths, Prince, Springsteen, Madonna, Michael Jackson etc.

I don't think any era of music - including the sixties - comes close.

And Dave Grohl is not good. I too am a multi-instrumentalist so I don't know if that really matters as an argument. No one can play better than Joe Satriani and his music is terrible.

Ignore his taste in movies. He also thought Keanu was a great movie.
- DeflatedPucks

I thought it was a hilarious movie, I don't know if I'd say "great" but I really enjoyed it. Especially the George Michael parts. Even if you hated the movie, it is certainly not bad on a level of 'if a guy liked this you can't trust him on anything' level.

I mean, save that for when someone says their favorite band is the Foo Fighters.

The only way I'd consider Dave Grohl overrated is that a lot people people think everything he does is automatically awesome because of who he is. Because of his history of doing great things. Personally some of the newer stuff I don't like as much. But come on. You mention never mind and nirvana, Then the guy goes on to play every instrument on the first foo fighters album. Then went out and found a band after. guys resume goes on and on. One of the best musicians/frontman in our generation. I don't know any argument that changes that.
- Trevrrrgavo

Dave Grohl isn't the worst - he writes generic mid-tempo rock songs. He's the equivalent of the Guess Who, Nickleback, Foreigner etc. Each of those bands has a few good songs but are way more famous than they deserve, based on their being literally 10 000 bands more deserving.

However, people really like generic mid-tempo rock songs. Grohl is nothing more than a hard-rock Rob Thomas. Foo Fighters no different from Maroon 5 or the Killers.

Certainly if all you like is radio hits, Foo Fighters are probably one of the greatest of their generation. But so is Hanson.

Plus, if you feel he's overrated, then you're in Courtney Love's camp. And nobody wants to be in league with Courtney Love. Not her own family. Not even Satan himself. She's horrible.
- simethos

Fun fact:

Hole has 1 all-time classic record and the Foo Fighters do not.

Courtney Love might be our generations Yoko, but Live Through This is one of the best albums anyone has ever recorded. Ever.

I got this James

1. Why do Franson and Paranteau not have contracts?
They are not as good as you think they are.

2. Nolan Patrick should definitely be in the NHL.
Probably

3. Steve Yzerman - more overrated than Dave Grohl.
Both are highly successful and probably don't care what we think.

4. Used Book Stores - is there anything better?
They're pretty great.

5. Why does my keyboard switch to Canadian French every once in a while? The slash makes an accent on the E.......ééé
-mash control and shift until it fixes itself
-if you actually have french language keyboard installed, window+space is the shortcut to toggle

6. Is anything more amusing than people defending the Dan Giardi signing?
I'm willing to wait until he plays to judge the signing

7. This song would never be a hit in any era, but it's still good.

He's rumoured to have ghost written it - and considering it's quality vs the rest of her catalogue, that's not impossible - but there's no evidence that is true.

Sweet thanks. Franson and Paranteau consistently have good stats and are cheap. There may be a factor of teams wanting to play ECL guys, and some teams may underrate the usefullness of stats, but I guarantee it's not because I overrate them.

As for #7, I disagree. It's a pretty catchy, easy to shout-along-to song with a good beat that sounds great played very loud. Easily would have been a hit sing in any era that had hit songs.

They'll land somewhere, both those guys can contribute in depth roles.

It's a fine song, AF just doesn't do it for me.

By saying Yzerman is overrated, I am assuming you mean as a GM and not a dominant, Cup-hoisting, captain of a dynasty?

As for him being overrated as a GM - I will withhold judgement for another year or two. As of right now, no - he is not overrated. I'm sure there are several teams that wouldn't mind having him as a GM. Also, part of being a successful GM is having an owner that stays out the GM's business and let's him do his job. Vinik does that. Some teams don't have that luxury....

The Girardi signing gives me cramps. I will withhold judgement on this one also, although I don't expect Girardi to prove anyone wrong, but it would be nice if he did.

the guy has played the most playoff games in the history of the Rangers, every game well over 20 minutes, it isn't possible he is as bad as the Corsi lovers say he is, trust me

1. Why do Franson and Paranteau not have contracts?
My only guess would be the majority of teams considering these two are still dealing with cap-issues or potential trades out there, still.

2. Nolan Patrick should definitely be in the NHL.
yes.

3. Steve Yzerman - more overrated than Dave Grohl.
Both are lauded as influential in their current, and past, positions. Neither have hit legend status in their current roles, but are solid at what they do.

Not sure who is over-rating Mr. Grohl... he simply has an easy draw between different genres and social subcultures.

Kinda hipstery, bud.

4. Used Book Stores - is there anything better?
New book stores.

5. Why does my keyboard switch to Canadian French every once in a while? The slash makes an accent on the E.......ééé
Because you're hitting a combination of keys to switch ENG US to ENG CMS (Multi-lingual).

6. Is anything more amusing than people defending the Dan Giardi signing?
Who is defending it?
This seems like quite the strawman... literally every Bolts fan on here puked a bit when they saw the salary... and that it was for more than a single season.

We're all very hopeful that one of the most "veteran" post-season D-men in the league can bring solid 3rd pairing playing, and help mentor the young'uns... we aren't expecting him to live up to his money.

7. This song would never be a hit in any era, but it's still good.

Well... in fairness, Yzerman has a few issues-

1) Callahan signing (blegh)
2) Girardi signing (also blegh... but shorter blegh)
3) Puzzling 1st round choices (Outside of Drouin and Vasy)

That said, he does a fine job in contract negotiations with his roster players, a good job in trades and an excellent job in post-1st round drafting (though, he isn't the sole owner of that in TB).
