For those who care, Panarin will be wearing #9 with the Jackets. Fellow Russian Bobrovsky wears #72. |

Really curious who the 3C is gonna be then. I guess Kero, maybe WIngels. Ugh. - John Jaeckel
Wouldn't it be Schmaltz?

I think that barring a trade or signing the top 4 D is set at Keith, Seabrook, Murphy and Kempny. Unless he retires Rozsival will be the 7D, but 5D and 6D are a big question mark.
I could see one of Forsling (more likely) or Rutta making the team, but not both. I wonder if Oesterle will have a legitimate shot to make it on the third pair. - DarthKane
I wouldn't count him out. He's supposed to compete for it. |

Hate to be negative this morning, but if Bowman does not upgrade the bottom 3 defense, the Hawks better score 3 or more goals per game. Kempny-Seabrook was NOT a good pair last year and Forsling-Rosival or Forsling-Rutta is an EXTREMELY scary thought. Bowman needs a legit NHL depth dman to make Forsling and Rutta earn their playing time and to keep 48 yr old Rosival off the ice. |

I thought they were a solid pair.
But your point is value, the 5D and 6D are big question marks. |

Fancy stats wise, they were pretty bad and got bad QoC. More on the coaches for not trusting Kempny against better players. |

Better problem than years of no 2C until AA or 1LW, but still a big hole.

Yeah, maybe Schmaltz 3C and Kero goes out to wing with Dauphin centering more of a defensive fourth line. - John Jaeckel
This would be my guess. Schmaltz centering Sharp/Hartman would be a great setup for the young centerman |

Who is 2LW in that scenario? |

So... Sikura looks real good. - JRoenick97
Sounds that way, Bondra didn't hurt his case either. And look who's pocket Praplan picked on his goal. |

Currently in-house? Like it or not, and I don't, but I think in preseason you'll see the blender mixing up 2LW between the likes of Jurco, Wingels, Hayden, and Sharp. |

I figured that, but the option given had Sharp at 3LW with Schmaltz at C. Those are 2 guys I see given 2LW shots. |

Right and I think Kero could do 3C but if they are serious about moving Schmaltz to C, then do it and leave him there for a long stretch at the least. Don't be flipping him back and forth unless the desire isn't there to eventually be a C. Putting him in between Sharp/Hartman would be yuge for his development and both guys play a similar game he should thrive in. If it's me, I'm leaving Schmaltz at 3C and let the rotating door be at 2LW for the time being rather than 3C. I also feel Wingels is better at wing than center, but just my opinion. |

I would agree. My guess is that the roster on day 1 before Hossa goes on LTIR will be different than the roster on day 2, and the roster at the trade deadline could be quite a bit different still.
It will be interesting to see Kempny, Forsling, Rutta, Murphy, Oesterle, Gustafsson, Pokka, Snuggerud, Norell, Dahlstrom in training camp.

Yeah, if they want Schmaltz to be a C down the road, I agree, leave him there. He could do a lot worse than Hartman and Sharp for wings. I would love if Hayden showed enough to be a legit 2LW with size. |

DeBrincat not only looked slow getting back after getting his pocket picked - more troubling is that it looked like he wasn't busting his hump to do so. Not good.

I wouldn't worry too much about it in prospect camp. Those guys have been busting their asses for 4-5 days and are likely dead tired too. Nobody was really backchecking hard. If it occurs in training camp and pre-season... that is a different story. |

Is it possible DeBrincat is just a gamer? This happens a lot where guys just don't do as well in drills/camps/etc but when they're in game mode, they are a completely different guy. Don't get me wrong, I'd rather see him in Rockford and get top line mins than start him in Chicago and with the current depth of vets it seems he will likely not make the NHL squad. Let him develop. |

He's a gamer for sure, and he's definitely best suited for the AHL this year to get his feet wet. |
