Anybody know how long you have to wait until you can sign a player's next contract while he's still on an ELC? McDavid waited until after year 2, but not sure if they could've offered him a deal sooner.

Cool, thanks.

So given that, I think the Leafs will be looking to get the trio locked up next July, leaving an opportunity to resign any of their UFAs as they'll have a clear picture of cap space available.

Jesus. It was painful watching Marner from games 65-82 last year.

Bless him.

Well when you carry the line for 60 games you should get a break.

I wonder if they are already working on a Nylander extension?

Yeah. Hopefully he can do that for 82 games and playoffs going forward. Need a guy like him to be there game in game out.

I'm sure this year was a good learning experience for him

Ok. But no one was comparing their health records. Also, the other 4 seasons in the past 6 he only missed 2.
Simply pointed out that the leafs signed a player over 35 for more than 6 mil plus, which previously was stated that the leafs would not be interested in doing so.

Question is will Marleau's health stay the same or decrease as he gets older?
He'll be 38 this season.
We'll see.

Excellent point, he was signed to a three year deal partially because of his health record. What smart management teams will do moving forward is take a player's health and ability to fulfill a contract when signing a long term deal - say 5 years or more. It's really overlooked but crucial when considering the value of a player. Think about it, a very talented player like Steve Stamkos signs with Tampa signs for say $8 mil a year - the money is not the issue, the fact that some plug from the AHL is on your team for the time that he is off. And as you point out age is also a factor, for some much more so than others.

Similarly, its killing the Jays that they have a very talented 2nd baseman, but is off more than he plays.

I had the HIV. Takes it right out of you.

Full week in bed. Lots of OJ, rest and soup and I was right as rain.

He'll want at least 6 mill with max years, that'll pay him at least 6 when he's 36, no thank you.
- the_eye

Yeah thats a tough one, I was only in bed for 5 days with a fever over 102, but as soon as you're back on your feet you have no energy for a couple of months.

All Leafs nation. He'll make us wish Nonis was still in charge.

6 goals in the Marlies playoffs last year. He's a gamer. Him and Kapanen will make Justin Williams look like a Blue Jays better in terms of clutchnesss.

That doesn't seem so rough. I guess the crisis in the 80s was pretty overblown.

Travis needs to be traded. He is simply not a full time player.
