Surely to poop there's someone in the whole of the United States of America that can teach this sad sack Jays team to hit with RISP. There has to be. That 8th inning was completely embarrassing. And they show this poop on 4 or 5 channels. |

Im glad the leafs arent doing exactly that with Marleau. - Fakepartofme
JVR has misssed a half season's worth of games twice in the past six years, in case that math is too difficult for you, that 33% roughly. His health track record for playing full seasons is not comparable to Marleau's. It's is not likely to improve as he gets older. |

You think Jvr will be a Marleau type player when he's 37?
I don't think it's likely. |

JVR hasn't been a Marleau type player yet in his career.
JVR walks at the end of the year, barring a collapse where we're not making the playoffs, and then we flip him for whatever.
People will complain about poor asset management, but I doubt we've received any decent offers for him so far and likely won't all season. |

Ok. But no one was comparing their health records. Also, the other 4 seasons in the past 6 he only missed 2.
Simply pointed out that the leafs signed a player over 35 for more than 6 mil plus, which previously was stated that the leafs would not be interested in doing so.
Question is will Marleau's health stay the same or decrease as he gets older?
He'll be 38 this season.
We'll see. |

No. but no one ever said to sign JVR until he's 37 or older.
Jesus he's only 28.
No one has ever mentioned signing him for longer than 5 or 6 years. |

BOZAK may not back check but 7th in league last year in face off wins at 56.7%
Kadri 76th in league at faceoff wins at 48%
It doesn't really matter a real pro and a good man will sharpen up his skills in off season. Kadri has improved upon year before last and he reminds me of the rat
Kenny linseman. We will have to wait and see what leafs do with JVR BOZAK

I'm not sure why this Matthews, Nylander, Marner cap thing is always coming up.
There are few better teams positioned in the league cap wise than Toronto. Any deals signed beyond the next couple seasons are insanely economical. What are there, 4? Marleaus contract is the biggest reach, and year 3 of it is a wash, which makes it a non factor before a Marner extension would even kick in.
Pittsburgh seemed to do just fine with Crosby, Malkin, and Kessel on the payroll, and still managed to fit Letang, Fleury, Kuntz, Daley, hornqvist... Etc.
I can't find a way to see this as nothing more than media induced hysteria. Oh God, Toronto has 3 good players who will need money, how will they fit anyone else? - joel878
Go to NHLnumbers.com
create yourself a spreadsheet.
look at what we have committed, make a realistic estimate of Matthews Marner Nylander. (hint: you don't get them for something like 20 million total, closer to 25 or more.)
Then try to fill out a roster.
The Leafs are fine now, but to suggest that thing won't get tight a couple years from now it silly.
Part of what people are missing is that "top" players no longer sign for 8, mediocre players are getting 2,3,4 million and the cap is going up very slowly, if at all.

He'll want at least 6 mill with max years, that'll pay him at least 6 when he's 36, no thank you. |

All Leafs nation. He'll make us wish Nonis was still in charge.
6 goals in the Marlies playoffs last year. He's a gamer. Him and Kapanen will make Justin Williams look like a Blue Jays better in terms of clutchnesss. |

Anybody know how long you have to wait until you can sign a player's next contract while he's still on an ELC? McDavid waited until after year 2, but not sure if they could've offered him a deal sooner. |
