I wonder about this as well. Yes cash is king but I think JVR is genuinely excited about being here after being here for the dark years. Like most of the remaining old core.

Yes he was underpaid on his last contract but he signed a 25 mil contract in his 20's. Would finishing off your career with a 39 mil vs 33 mil contract be worth playing in New Jersey?

For some absolutely, but I think he may stay.

I think the sooner they sign the three to a deal after their ELCs expire, the better, then they'll know what they have available for guys like JVR or Bozak, assuming they want to keep them.

JVR, I think they let him walk, but Bozak i could see signing a 3-year deal. He has a lot of hockey left, he doesn't play a heavy/wreckless game at all.

that his cap hit but could be paid less

2mil x 3 base salary + 5mil x 3 signing bonus years 1 , 2, 3
2mil x 2 base salary + 3mil x 2 signing bonus years 4, 5
1mil x 1 base salary + 2mil x 1 signing bonus years 6

full no movement clause

Quick glance, i don't think it's cap complaint...

The nice part is while they're not immediately replaceable long term they are. Center is more questionable though, when will Nylander make the switch and how effective can he be?

Except the fact Toronto is already doing that with Marleau since they signed him for 3 years at the age of 37..... I would rather have JVR personally but at the same time he could be traded for a Dman, hopefully not named Luke Schenn like another team I know....

I honestly don't know if Nylander will ever play center. I don't think we need him, if we sign Bozak to a friendly 3-4 year deal.

Bozak's basically the perfect 3C in a sheltered scoring role. I don't see Babs adopting a top 6/bottom 6 approach any time soon.

Losing Bozak and moving Nylander to center would clear up the logjam we have on the wing, but organizational depth at center suffers big time if that happens.

I'd rather we move Komarov now and let Hyman slot into the left side with Kadri; he plays as much or more on the PK than Komarov and is just as agitating, and quicker.

I'm not sure why this Matthews, Nylander, Marner cap thing is always coming up.

There are few better teams positioned in the league cap wise than Toronto. Any deals signed beyond the next couple seasons are insanely economical. What are there, 4? Marleaus contract is the biggest reach, and year 3 of it is a wash, which makes it a non factor before a Marner extension would even kick in.

Pittsburgh seemed to do just fine with Crosby, Malkin, and Kessel on the payroll, and still managed to fit Letang, Fleury, Kuntz, Daley, hornqvist... Etc.

I can't find a way to see this as nothing more than media induced hysteria. Oh God, Toronto has 3 good players who will need money, how will they fit anyone else?

I'd be ok with a Bozak re-sign. I could see a scenario where Nylander remains a winger indefinitely. Even that doesn't sound so bad if he continues to have chemistry/success with Matthews.

Good teams need to be three centers deep so I'd hate to see him leave without a replacement.

The team is clearly in win now mode so I just can't see any way Komarov is moved this season. Matthews is the only Leaf forward who seen more ice than Leo, he's Babcocks workhorse.

Yeah, I think the logjam on the wing was the same last year, with us being extremely lucky on the injury front.

Soshnikov can be sent down without being put on waivers; so can Kapanen if for some reason he doesn't make it out of camp.

Leivo's the only guy I see potentially suffering again: I just can't see them Corrado'ing him again this year.

It seems statistically unlikely that they are that healthy again next year. As long as the three wonder rookies stay healthy they should be fine. The Brown's and Komarovs can miss a little time.

The D by committee if one of the top 3 go down could get pretty scary.

If JVR has gone to rental status then sell him for a song to Isles. Let Snow throw money at him to secure the asset. Then when they miss playoffs JT can walk to Leafs. They will have the cap space with JVR gone. Maybe JT will like to play one year with Marleau to go for it before buying him out. It must be the LL plan knowing Snow is a dunce.

can only have one player in your top 6 that doesn't backcheck if you want to win the cup.
leafs have three in bozak, jvr, nylander.
nylander will stay - other two have to go then.

- MaximusAurelius

If you watched him play at the end of the season you'd know that's not correct anymore.

His defensive play/effort was night and day from beginning of the season to the end.

Duh. Anybody who is older than 26 years of age was born before the Sens existed. Many are Leaf and Canadiens fans. Some like me have made a conscious decision to support the Sens even though I grew up a Leaf fan. But you will not find many Leaf fans among the under 25 crowd. The Sens made huge progress in expanding their footprint during the recent playoff run.

The Leafs and MLSE in particular have been voted by ESPN as the worst major league sports franchise for fans. Not an insignificant conclusion.

Marleau is 37 years old and has missed less than 30 games his entire career. He last missed a game about 10 years ago. I would say thats a pretty good track record. So, different scenerio. Also put up 27 goals playing of the third line of a team that finished 24 th in scoring.

Agreed that snow is franked! He won't be around when those draft picks he got for Hamonic, are ready to even see the nhl ! he'll be long gone! He should of tried to get jvr! He wanted a 1st added and the leafs said frank you! He should of tried jvr carrick?+2nd it would of gave the islanders a line of JT ,EBBS, JVR! that would of sent a message to John that their seriously trying to contend, what the frank are those picks going to do? He could maybe flip them?but it won't get you duchene! They want a A+dman prospect, 1st plus a young player! Jvr and long island made a lot of sense! He's from across the river basically! I could see him signing a 5/6 years ×5.5to6.5? And be close to is family! Hopefully the leafs are flying by the TDL and flip him for a first and prospect! Same with bozak! 3, late 1st next year sounds good to me! If shatty broken down Hanzal and a flukey season eaves got a late 1st! Then hopefully with a season or better! they fetch the same or more! And whoever disagrees can go frank them selfs!

Chances are were not going to make it through another year relatively unscathed, but I think they have enough depth to whether injuries at forward.

I would think that term its more of the problem than salary. JVR is worth $6 mil a year, but do you want to pay that when he is 35 years old and beyond. I'm not so sure.
- winsix

Im glad the leafs arent doing exactly that with Marleau.
