Of course GM's will pay more for a UFA when they don't have to give up serious assets. JVR is getting into rental country, you can only get so much. You guys may as well use him & move him at the TDL, chances are you will be able to get a little more for a desperate GM on the bubble. Hamonic is signed for 3 more years at an amazing cap hit. That got the extra 2nd alone. - Kevin R
I agree with all u said. A rental this early on is hard to move. Teams r forming up & moving D is a difficult proposition. The TDL is the more likely time but at that point the Leafs will be hard pressed to trade away pieces when prolly in a PO drive. In general wingers r not as valuable a commodity & GM's wait til the offseason.
As for LL saying he is ok with his D what other choice does he have?
I don't believe for a moment that is true. |

I think JVR has been in rental country for some time. In fact the reason Duchene is so hard to move is that in reality, he is a rental - two years rather than one, that will be looking to hit the jackpot when his current deal is up. I agree that moving him at the trade deadline will net a bigger haul, particularly if there are two or more dance partners. A late first rounder plus a mid range prospect would be reasonable. The only way to increase his value (and this would be difficult if not nearly impossible to accomplish) would be to sign him to a reasonable 4-5 year deal and trade him, or allow the team he would be traded to to negotiate a deal to get extra value.

can only have one player in your top 6 that doesn't backcheck if you want to win the cup.
leafs have three in bozak, jvr, nylander.
nylander will stay - other two have to go then. |

Actuallly, the notion of the top six was something that Burkie coined when he was here. I'm not a real fan of the phrase, especially when discussing the current Leafs. They have three legitimate scoring lines. Who's the third line centre in your opinion? Is it Kadri or Bozak?

I view the "third line" as the checking line, so that will be Kadri. Bozak is, however, the third best centre, PLUS the Kadri line played more than the Bozak line, so....(frank) it. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ |

Duh. Anybody who is older than 26 years of age was born before the Sens existed. Many are Leaf and Canadiens fans. Some like me have made a conscious decision to support the Sens even though I grew up a Leaf fan. But you will not find many Leaf fans among the under 25 crowd. The Sens made huge progress in expanding their footprint during the recent playoff run.
The Leafs and MLSE in particular have been voted by ESPN as the worst major league sports franchise for fans. Not an insignificant conclusion.

BOZAK may not back check but 7th in league last year in face off wins at 56.7%
Kadri 76th in league at faceoff wins at 48%
It doesn't really matter a real pro and a good man will sharpen up his skills in off season. Kadri has improved upon year before last and he reminds me of the rat
Kenny linseman. We will have to wait and see what leafs do with JVR BOZAK

This isn't true 47% of the time. When it isn't true, it is because A guy just accidentally ended up on a team out of sheer luck.

Im guessing JvR + 1st for Hamonic (alone) was not the deal. It probably required another prospect going back to Toronto.
The Hamonic deal, imo, was a major negative move for Tavares. At least it looks that way.
I wouldn't be surprised if he does end up signing in a place like Tampa, as someone mentioned before.
As for JvR, he will have a pretty good market at the trade deadline if hes not injured or has an uncharacteristically bad season, and if Toronto cant get a defenseman they want, they'll take the picks.
I dont see JvR signing for a discount. I wouldn't. He's only got this 1 shot at a big contract for the rest of his career. Cant blame him for wanting to take top dollar.

I would think that term its more of the problem than salary. JVR is worth $6 mil a year, but do you want to pay that when he is 35 years old and beyond. I'm not so sure. - winsix
that his cap hit but could be paid less
2mil x 3 base salary + 5mil x 3 signing bonus years 1 , 2, 3
2mil x 2 base salary + 3mil x 2 signing bonus years 4, 5
1mil x 1 base salary + 2mil x 1 signing bonus years 6
full no movement clause

I wonder about this as well. Yes cash is king but I think JVR is genuinely excited about being here after being here for the dark years. Like most of the remaining old core.
Yes he was underpaid on his last contract but he signed a 25 mil contract in his 20's. Would finishing off your career with a 39 mil vs 33 mil contract be worth playing in New Jersey?
For some absolutely, but I think he may stay. |

Except the fact Toronto is already doing that with Marleau since they signed him for 3 years at the age of 37..... I would rather have JVR personally but at the same time he could be traded for a Dman, hopefully not named Luke Schenn like another team I know.... |
