Hey Bill, I'm still trying figure out why didn't Flyers get Klim Kostin or Eeli Tolvanen with their second 1st round pick. "Frost. He’s not the biggest player, or the fastest skater, or the flashiest offensive stud ...." - don't we need sniper and not a setup guy?

Flyers draft best player available, not by need.

Well thats flat out false. He won every timed skating competition at the Top Prospects camp....

However, interestingly enough you pointed out the need for size and sniping ability.

8 picks after they selected Frost, they got that exact package in Isaac Ratcliffe.

The way NHL teams rank the prospects is different from what you seeing in prospect rankings. There are certain things team scouts see that other dont. So Flyers traded up and selected both Frost and Ratcliffe for certain reasons... most likely being that they thing they will have the best chance at reaching their projected ceiling.

We also got Strome in the 4th who has size + scoring ability. But, as known, has a lot of work to do with his skating.

They also drafted some big boys last year.

Wade Allison 6'2'' 205
Connor Bunnamann 6'3'' 205

I like the past few Flyers drafts.

And when the team is full of 6'2"+ 200+ lbs forwards everyone will be claiming they need a Johnny Hockey/Marty St Louis type guy...

That was from USA today. Nobody disputes kids ability as a setup man. We have Travis Konecny (that who Frost was compare to). When this kid is going to be ready?
Where Kostin (if rehabilitated after shoulder surgery) is ready to play. He is scorer plus huge and plays with a nasty, chippy edge. Mean and hits to hurt ...

Kostin was a question mark as to his ability to come over due to the state of his KHL team.

We have Travis Konechny, but I don't remember to many complains about Flyers from Eric Lindros era...that was large team! But nobody says everybody has to be big! But how many pure scorers are on this Flyers team?

True, that was a chance they had to take, but it was well known fact that Dynamo Moscow (Kostin team) was in BIG financial problems

In terms of the Flyers draft strategy, being ready to play sooner is irrelevant

I guess it is still true... I hope Frost has better upside than Kostin! Will "trust the process" and Hextall
