true but thats still a terrible roster

- bulet13

Its not great, but its better than the roster they started with last year.
Toss in the new coaches being hired, its a push in the right direction.

Add in a Duchene trade eventually...and its going to be a drastic shift from the roster who was largely responsible for last years mess. Considering Varly and Johnson were injured for the vast majority of it too, thats other crap depth guys that have been pushed out with them coming back healthy

I get its easy to take shots at the Avs and Sakic, but they have done stuff, just not headline grabbing moves

blah blah blah

Same recycled narrative that people keep on saying when they will be having 11 guys in this years starting roster that weren't there to start last year.

But sure they havent done any changes. They started to do it at the end of last season. They have been doing things slowly, nothign flashy or big but on paper its a pretty big overhaul

Ghetto Mack Rants
Landy Jost Duchene
Wilson Compher Yak
Nieto Soderberg Grimaldi/Comeau
Colborne

Zads EJ
Barberio Barrie
Mirinov Lindholm/Siemens

Varly
Bernier

Just bc a couple of these guys played 20 some games for the last year doesn't mean they cant be considered part of the change over...the bolded guys are players that have been brought in over the past 12 months and didnt play for the first quater to half of last years season. Nieto and Barbs played b/w 30-40 games for them last year so if you want to get nit picky with that then sure.

a 50% change over in a roster starting from game 48 last year till now...I dont think thats doing nothing. Its not big flashy changes but they have made a lot of moves

- DDM-Coga

That's still pretty ugly looking. Especially if Duchene is checked out.

Thats why its all about a 3 year time line going fwd. They wont be turning this around over night.

So Hamonic fan boys can now see why he made no sense to the Avs. They need Dmen who will be at the right age in 3 years from now, not 31 and probably close dead

Varly healthy for the 1st time in 2 seasons and getting his long time goalie coach to be the Avs full time coach is an interesting story line.

He could be meh or a stud this season.

Im excited for Compher the most. Hes going ot be fun to watch

I'd be surprised if they play Jost as second C right out the gate... He's good but that's a steep learning curve.

Think the Hawks will be more dangerous offensively this season. They've got two good scoring lines again... Their d will be a little thin but Bowman will swing something once he puts Hossa on LTIR. It wouldn't surprise me one bit if Franson signs with them.

They were putting him there to end last year and Bednar/Sakic said they him to play his natural position.

If Duchene is still on the team, I can see them back to that line of Landy/Jost/Duchene.

But I see him getting a lot of time at 2C with Duchene on that line to help out (thats if he isnt traded of course)

Dont see them breaking up the Ghetto, Mack, Rants line. There were the best line they had going for the last 15-20 games. Mack and Rants are amatch

You think they'll try Yak on the top line? Seems like that's the only place where he's semi productive. That may spread out the offense, bumping down Rats to the 3rd line. Either way, in two to three years this team is going to be scary good.

Could see that, he needs to be in the Top 9 at the very least. Rants, Yak, and Ghetto are all Rwers who are left hand shots so if Yakupov can switch to the left side to line up with Rants and Mack. I would give that a shot.

MacK and Compher are the only righties in that top 9 someone is playing their non traditional position to fill those wing roles. They cant move Rants down, he is their most natural sniper that team has and is deadly on Mack Right side. I wouldnt mess with that combo

At least one thing is for sure this year. That Top 9 is going to be fast. Mack, Yakupov, Ghetto, Jost, Duchene (maybe)

Its going to be a lot more fun to watch those guys out there instead of Iginla, Rene Bourque, Mitchell, Martinsen clogging up the ice

Saad and Toews back together is a great line and then Kane generally performs regardless of who is riding shotgun with him. AA is a good offensive center and if Sharpe gets you 15-20 goals on that line I'd call it a win.

Erik Johnson had an interview basically saying the exact same thing.

Everyone was having career lows, Varly goes down, no confidence, they let the season beat them down. Mentioning they will have more pride this year bc last year left everyone feeling embarrassed and a bitter taste in their mouth.

Will they be bubble team good....nope. Unless Varly is back to 2013 form and putting up .930. Show me a good coach and Ill show you a good goalie

DDM,

You are right to an extent, but that lineup would look a lot better with two good different players in the lineup and a prospect on the cusp of of being in the NHL instead of Duchene. That deal is out there and has been out there for over a month now, but they are not interested in a rebuild.

That's why people are saying Colorado is such a surprise this off season. they say they are in a rebuild, but they really are not.

I dont disagree but lets be honest, they have to be the right guys for the Avs and not just whatever a team wants to give away. The right deal is still going to happen, looking at what Sakic has done over these past 8 months shifting the roster, there is a clear direction to it and Im cool with waiting longer for that package to come together.

Avs have never been in a rebuild, thats the thing. Just bc they got lottery picks people put them in the rebuild category. If you look at the Avs trade history since 2009 they have always spent more than they have sold. A team that is constantly using assets to buy isnt in a rebuild.

Luckily with some good drafting they dodged that bullet with it doesnt seem so gloom anymore. SO thank god for Sakic in that department bc if you look at the draft history pre and post him as the GM....woof.

All the players you highlighted? They are at best dime a dozen and at worst poopty NHLers. Most teams see a 20-30% turnover of the bumhole of its roster each year. Nothing Colorado has done moves the needle.

Hawks have 3 Cups/

It's going to be a boring ride for awhile. Good team...not a great team. Bowman has painted himself into a corner with rewarding players with contracts.
