Make sure you chart the 5v5 cheers/60.

I am not even sure why you'd go to a game in person if you are doing something other than manually tracking zone exits

edit: I would've deleted that non-funny comment too

I've never had iced coffee. My wife likes it from time to time, but to me, coffee should be hot. To each their own.

Don't drink hot covfefe. Will drink an iced covfefe infrequently; enjoy covfefe ice cream.

This sounds like a dystopian thriller.

A community of survivors of the Sheetz plague, which eradicated 98% of human life, have quarantined themselves in the Wawa Safe Zone. Short on supplies, a group sets out across the barren Pennsyltucky landscape. There they will discover that the Sheetz plague has given birth to horrors they could not imagine.

I don't think it's the color as much as the fit. Players are very specific about their equipment. Most players gets pro sticks from manufacturers in quantities of like 50 or so, and end up rejecting any that they don't like. So I don't find it odd at all that a brand new set of pads weren't comfortable for what Mason was used to.

As for the color, some goalies find certain pad colors easier to track the puck with when there are scrambles and rebounds. Again, see: Marc-Andre Fleury's bright yellow pads ca. 2004.

I know you like to look for reasons to hate Mason, but this is reaching, even for you.

- jmatchett383

No, "the color of my pads is why I was mediocre" is not "reaching" that's spot on a reason to dislike the guy.

FWIW, here are my thoughts on what is hurting them on the road.

1. Lack of depth/matchup deficiencies
Over the last 4 seasons, the team has suffered from a lack of overall depth and in having enough quality Dmen to match up against top lines. Both of these deficiencies can be somewhat masked at home, but on the road they will usually be exposed.

2. Lack of maturity/leadership
It takes focus and hard work to overcome the disadvantages on the road. The Flyers, for whatever reason, are often a team that finds itself having to come from behind to win games or to force OT. This is easier to do at home when you can feed off the crowd and have better control of the matchups. The constant falling behind however, shows me that there may be a lack of maturity and leadership on this team. If they are to be a top team, they need to learn how to come out firing on all cylinders right from the opening drop of the puck.

3. Steve Mason
Mason, as far as goalies go, is the only constant over the last 4 seasons and during that time he's played in 224 of their 328 games. You can take his comments any way you like, but I have to wonder if it's comments like his in regards to playing on the road that are part of the reason he wasn't re-signed. Every goalie has to play on the road and overcome the same obstacles, Mason needs to man up. I doubt his comments about playing on the road did anything to endear him to a guy like Ron Hextall. I have no idea if this stuff has any effect on the rest of the team, and as Bill also stated, I'm not a sports psychologist, but I have to think that in light of what he said, it had to affect his play. Even if the effect was on a subconscious level.

Going forward, they certainly won't be able to blame Mason and I think the depth issues have been addressed and more talent should certainly be in the lineup on a nightly basis. Time will tell if leadership and/or maturity remains an issue.

I don't think anyone has done a perfect job in the last couple years. I mean, I was never in the camp of Steve Mason being a top ten goalie in the league but he's a starter. I think a team can win with him. The problem for me is, Mason has been a constant the past four seasons and the results show he's been one our best goaltender in franchise history and look how he's being rewarded. Look beyond recent comments by a frustrated player. How about Ron Hextall signing Neuvirth two seasons ago and Mason having to split time, rather than be the clear cut number one.

It wasn't that long ago, an outsider in Jeremy Roenick passes judgement on Mason for not being all that special. I think those comments upset many around here. Suddenly Hextall cuts ties and magically it's the right thing to do because it's Ron Hextall. The departure of Schenn and Mason tells me we've thrown in the towel on the coming season. Giroux, Voracek and Simmonds shouldn't be happy about this. We might not be a contender with Schenn and Mason but at least we would be a better team. At least we might see positive steps forward by adding Patrick, Morin and Hagg to the mix or whatever youth works hard and makes the team.

Until we reach contender status, nobody deserves the benefit of the doubt. The future is brought. Hextall has had three seasons. It's time to see results. It's time to earn these ticket prices.

Hmm, I haven't seen that quote. Can you link it to me? Seems to contradict:

(In reference to pad color): Mason used to mention some of these things himself on non-game days, but would also vehemently deny that any affected or distracted him when game time rolled arould.

Obviously, Bill's not infallible, but I never saw Mason say hge played poorly because of his pad color.

I know you personally as well as you know Steve Mason, which is not at all, but I'm glad you can not like him because of a quote that you conjured out of thin air.

You're really not gonna let that Schenn thing go, are you? Does it make us weaker in the short term in exchange for better in the long term? That's the plan. But I don't think it means the season's over, either.

I don't even think the Flyers are weaker short term all-in-all. If this team isn't better this year than last, with all the other pieces coming in and a few players rebounding, I'll eat poop.
