Edit: Several players prefer black tape for their sticks because it makes it harder for the goalie/defender to track the puck. Same idea here, except it would be a deterrent. But then again, you and I aren't part of the crowd that just looks for things to blame Mason for.

I would assume that a goalie would see his pads all the time while playing. Even if it's just peripheral vision. And when it's a scramble in front of the net you are absolutely going to see your own gear. I just put it up there with a pre-game meal routine, you know what works for you... Don't screw with it if it works...

No Show Joe uses all white (stick/tape) because he thinks it makes it harder. It appears to work during the regular season, but come playoffs it doesnt help much
