Galchenyuk played his junior down the middle and was advertised as an eventual Center from the get-go. I agree that he may not end up there, and some experts have claimed this from day 1, but to say he's never played there, or that Bergevin never envisioned him then is simply not true.

well if he played center in junior he didn't learn anything, cause he has aboslutely no clue what to do when he doesn't have the puck.
the advertising part is not on him obviously.

I'm okay with that trade, like with almost all of his trades. he really has a good track record.
just need to find a center, a real one, a top one. that should have been his #1 priority. it's been 5 years...

The Subban trade ended up as a 1-for-1 because Nashville kept the absolutely brutal cap implications when Weber retires. As for Therrien, what we saw during the season suggests that if competent replacement would have been available, he would have. Look at how quickly he jumped on Julien which was a solid and worthwhile replacement. I'm certainly not in love with Bergevin and everything he's done, but unless Molson can find a qualified and experienced replacement prior to firing Bergevin, I just don't see the point.

This and your not prior comment are true. And the onus should be on him to find said Center. If we replace him now, then new management comes in and says "we've got a five year plan and we're going to draft a no. 1 center and it'll be the same crap for another 5 years. Or we'll find a Gainey that will trade Juulsen for Gomez.

Agreed. The fact his entire job is a catch 22 doesn't help. Team doesn't perform well, we get decent draft picks and it's all the GM's fault for not having a better roster. Perform decently and get middling picks like the Habs have had? Why don't we have any A-1 prospects? The fact that it's the fishbowl that is Montreal dosn't help at all, where everything is scrutinized and judged before a game is even played. So sure, fire MB, trade everyone, then blame the next GM as to why we suck.
