he never did anything in the playoffs, like Markov btw. never brought his game to the next level.
why in hell would a contender trade for him if they're serious about winning it?!? - fidopro
Still had 49 pts in 87 playoff games while playing against the other team's top line every night...
He'd be a perfect fit in a 3rd line shutdown role on a contender. |

If there's one guy who's all for patience and stability it's me. ask around, I backed MB AND MT for a very long time excaclty for that reason.
but there's a limit to my patience. if you cannot find a #1C in 5 years, GTFO! - fidopro
But it hasn't been 5 years. Who continues to try to fix a problem that should already be dealt with? He thought he had his 1C in Galchenyuk. Even more so when the kid explodes to a ppg pace over 60 games in 2016. Now he has 2 potential options for the position and 9M (minus whatever Markov gets) to try something else at deadline if both options don't work. |

MB was named GM 5-2-12
how is that not 5 years?
and yes it's early for #firemb. seems like I'm always 6 months ahead |

You'd really be that opposed to an experienced 3C like Plekanec at 2M per? - kev1586
yes...Hudon or Mccaron will take that 3rd spot |

Well, Eller isn't finished...he just never started to be good.
Plek had 1 bad season, we'll see what he can do this year. He's still an OK player and I think he has value for a team that aims for the cup and are looking for a good defensive center. - BashCH
OMG you were serious !If we get a 3rd for Plek, I will be happy ! |

No I get what you mean but he figured to have drafted the long awaited 1C in Galchenyuk. It didn't work out so now he's gone and acquired Drouin. They aren't guarantees but it's better than trading for Gomez. At the end of the day, I think we are simply proposing very different solutions to the same problem. Time will tell who is right... |

yet neither one of them (Galchenyuk and Drouin) never played center before.
good plan!
how about acquiring a real one? many were traded in the past years. to DAL, to BUF, to NASH...
in 5 years, the only centers MB acquired are Flynn and Mitchell...
and that's not even a joke. |

I think the French factor played a big part in that trade...Bergevin probably wanted to appease the media and péquiste fans.
I'm still happy as well about the trade though, I think Drouin is a hell of a player. |

What other player of that level was available other than Drouin?
Eberle? Not as good and older.
Strome? A centre with size sure, but a huge risk and they wanted a forward over a defender back.
Pananrin? Saad? Wingers and the Jackets at least wouldn't want defensemen
Damned if you do, damned if you don't.

Galchenyuk played his junior down the middle and was advertised as an eventual Center from the get-go. I agree that he may not end up there, and some experts have claimed this from day 1, but to say he's never played there, or that Bergevin never envisioned him then is simply not true. |
