To a PTO, sure, why not...

Anyone left not named Markov should only be tendered PTOs... unless I'm missing someone worthwhile on the FA market.

With 8-9M left in cap space, does Bergevin sit as is going into pre-season/reg season?

Or does Markov sign 6M 1 year?

Unless he is using that cap space for a trade for a center I'm not sure this team will be any better than last years team that had its moments in the regular season but fizzled in the first round.

Over 5 years this team hasn't gotten any better. The biggest addition to the overall makeup of the team will be Claude Julien putting together his plan starting in camp.

Not sure how this team wins anything with a center depth of Danault - Pleks - Shaw - Holland/Mitchell

There is nothing left tbh. Gélinas and Després could be given a PTO and see how it goes; having internal competition at the training camp is a good thing for everyone.

Well, there is Markov...

If they really want to ensure Markov is gone, all they have to do is offer him a PTO instead of a contract. Otherwise, we wait until he breaks. This is the first time Markov is representing himself in Free Agency, and the GMs know it...They're not going to let him dictate the terms.

I took a medium cheese, mushroom, pepper, onion pizza, put a rib steak down in the middle of it, covered it in gravy and ate it with a knife and fork.

I hope he signs Markov but not at 6M. At this point, he goes into the season with the roster as is. Danault is a fine option as 2C. The issue is 1C, so Bergevin is giving Galchenyuk and Drouin the opportunity to prove him wrong one last time. If it doesn't work, then he is likely to be one of the only GMs at the trade deadline that will actually want to add pieces and will have the freedom of doing so without having to pay the extra pick for the other team to eat parts of the salary in said deal. In addition, if he acquires a player who ends up working out, he likely has the money to re-sign him with Plekanec leaving or taking a significant pay cut. Is it a great situation, no. But it could be much more terrible. They could have signed Hanzal for 5M per.

Sérieusement, la première phrase de son article :

Le Canadien n’a toujours aucun centre d’impact à travers sa ligne centrale.
