That Babcock blows fella seems to be on to something...

No wait...

I meant he seems to be ON something.

My mistake.

I just think if those two were going to be good they would have already seen some icetime with the Leafs.. we've seen a bunch of other jabronis get called up tho..

I thought Neilson sould of made it out of camp last year. His Ahl numbers turned out to be pretty decent:

Toronto Marlies AHL 74 14 25 39 +7

He's got a big shot, size and speed, I guess the coaching staff doesn't like his decision making ability?

Really? It didnt seem so obvious when my team was terrible for a decade and the trolls all figured we should be automatically be a playoff team after i toducing 18 yr old kids onto a horrible team for 3 straight years.

Like an 18,19 and 20 year old and a bunch of poopty AHL players is a recipe for success.

There is no real recipe that doesnt include a few cups of luck.

The Oil are PRIME example of how luck alone does not work, but luck combined with other solid decisions does work. You guys have been lucky twice

Better work this time! I'm looking forward to a few all Canadian finals between our two teams.

Yes, luck combined with solid preparation and smart decisions.

Tanking team never can rely on quality free agents arriving like the Calvalry, so things will always take time.

My 3 biggest criticisms of the Oilers rebuild were:
A) Started this thing without anyBlue CHip D men in the pipeline.
2.Failed to maximize return for the few quality players we had. (Seriously....Souray,Visnovsky,Horcoff,Hemsky,Penner and Gagne flipped has resulted in exactly 1 Oscar Klefbom).
3.Drafting was Dog poop.

Yup.

Leafs built a good management team first, then drafted well, then got lucky with Matthews. Very favorable timeline.

We still need D depth, but we do have some coming in the form of prospects. A smart trade or two will keep the on-ice product progressing while the farm ripens. Honestly, we don't deserve any success if we screw it up from here.

Your rebuild is working because you made good use of some horrible years, and here you are with a mature and useful Kadri,Gardiner,JVR and Rielly....without them, Mathews,Willy Ny and Mitch in front off useless old farts would not have the success.
Its a big part of it anway.

Yes, and good management brought good coaching, and good coaching gave those players a platform to become better. Every one of those players has improved by leaps and bounds since the arrival of Babcock (which includes quality assistants, training, and development staff).

Sorry, I didnt mean to imply it was the only reason. Leafs did plenty right last couple years

Is signing Draisaitl to a big contract part of your success or failure? What's the general consensus by fans?

I think that they have to get Drai locked up as soon as possible, for as long as possible. That said, anything over about $7.5m x 8 could be problematic, purely as he's yet to show that he can drive a line by himself (though he has the ability).

If the Oilers can get one line with McJesus rolling alongside a second line with Drai, then they could start to be REALLY dangerous...

I'll take Andersen at 5 over Price at 10.5

There's no question that Price is better, but at double the cost? Heck, at the moment we have Andersen and JvR for less than Price. (I could have also said Andersen and Matthews, Marner, Nylander, Brown... but that kinda misses the point )

EDIT: I also loves how he compares their captain to our rookie fourth liner

Buddy who is about 6 years older and just cracked the same landmark that Brown did in his rookie season playing against other teams' top lines?

Definitely the same thing
