Yet they're still too physically inept to be a playoff contender, or anything more than skilled 'magic trick'.
The "Red Wing Way" was soon exposed after the Cap system was implemented, and the results since that one Cup win have showed that the system is no where close to being the NHL methodology to follow.
By having no character from Babcock on down continues to fail. You Leaf sheep will understand this one day. - babcockblows

The usual Leaf sheep retort - troll. The results have shown, since the last stacked team that the Red Wings could offer, that this "great" system doesn't deliver the results when it matters most - that being the playoffs.

I hate the way Babcock's system emphasizes aggressive pinches by the dmen that make it like a five man forecheck, putting four forwards out on the PP...zzzzzzz.... |

Perhaps you're no troll, your superhero avatar has no face. Let me help you. You will henceforth be named Captain Turd. Between you and Spatso and Eugene Smell Sh!t, the three of you could overthrow the sewer kingdom.

Hey Mike.
What about the kid that was lighting up the lamp during eval camp.
He's unsigned. You think the Leafs would sign that kid to a pro contract?

this is BS
EDIT: it's always projected by people who write this, that they chose this as a model for players not to fail in nhl etc. ('make sure they're ready').
basically the red wings had such a good team, that no room for the youngsters, even if they were already ready before (as you say, basically only option for young players was to get on the team filling a spot of an older player leaving). - MaximusAurelius
I think you are over analyzing this, and I sense some needless hate towards the whole "Red Wing model" thing.
It's really a combination of both. Yes, the Wings had a lot of later picks during their years of success, so of course it takes longer to plug roster holes with young guys under those circumstances. But, yes, they also showed a lot of restraint and patience at times, which was the basis for their model of development.
It worked for a long time, in part because they achieved the perfect balance of success and development...together. Very, very tough to do.
I see us having the same patience, and hopefully the same success with later picks, and if that is the case, then we are following a model very similar.
If we get 25 years of playoff hockey, 12 100+ point seasons, and 4 Cups, will you still argue against such a methodology? |

Dermott. I've been scurd all off-season at the possibility of us including him in a package for a RD. I think he's our next big impact player. |

Mike Augello: Leafs following Wings over-ripening model - mikeinbuffalo
Detroits drafting and developing model isn't exactly a myth, but Its grossly exaggerated.
Over the past 2 decades they got got lucky ( or were good,no matter) with what? 5 or 6 picks?players? Lidstrom, FRanson,Kronwall, Zetts and Dats? Who else? More importantly, who lately? Their run of success with that model was a fairly small window, most of their titles were won by having big FRee Agency dollars to spend. |
