I've been saying for some time......our amateur scouting might be the best in the business under Hextall's directive. But our pro scouting/evaluating is not up to that standard, whether that's him or the pro scouts or more likely both. Especially as we move towards bigger trades and a bigger FA signing or two in the next handful of years, that area needs work. Too many times repeating the same mistakes. This isn't amateur -- there is too much info available and less/no projection.

I don't believe any of the trades Hextall has made has been about an immediate improvement of the current team, so I don't know if you can really grade him on that. Most of his trades have been about cap relief or gaining future draft picks. When he has had to bring a pro player back, it's been players with limited years left on their deals. As far as free agents, he's purposely been shopping the the clearance aisle.
All the veterans he's brought in have been stop gap players. I said earlier that I thought the Hartnell trade was a bad one. I'm also not a big fan of the Weise signing. I don't believe a good amount of what Hextall says publicly and that's fine with me. I don't believe a word he said about Filppula and Lehtera. They were just players he had to bring back in order to get the draft picks and they have the cap room to take them on at the moment.
My concern at this point is when does Hextall see this team turning the corner? This year may be the start of it as it seems there are going to be a significant number of rookies on the team along with the few kids that are already here.
