I still think the Hall for Larsson trade was a bad management of assets. From a trade perspective Hall > Larsson. It's become a pattern with Chiarelli where he has made deals where the better player ends up on the other team. Hall, Seguin, Eberle are all big examples. I would have had less issue if the trade involved another high draft pick or prospect coming back but as far as trades go it was one Edmonton lost.
Make no mistake I love what Larsson brought to the team last season and if he and Klef continue to improve I think they could be a top 5 pair in the NHL in years to come.
However secondary scoring, and as much as I hate the word; having a driver on a second line is still a concern for this team. The team needed defense more than it needed a scoring top LW but it is an issue that still needs to be addressed. - freelancer
No question Hall is the better player even though comparing a winger to a d-man is asinine. So like I said before we needed Larsson more than we needed Hall.
You can also argue that it was poor asset management but every GM in the NHL knew we were desperate and we were going to get bent over regardless whether is was Mac-T or Chiarelli taking it. |

Fair enough, either way it doesn't matter much now. I will say I've liked the smaller moves Chia has made. Kassian, Maroon, Benning, and I would even say the Talbot trade was a small one as far as assets go. I would just like to see that if Chia swings for the fences again it could be Edmonton that gets the best player. |

Agreed with all but the second paragraph. Not sure I see that happening.
I was all in favour of trading Hall for a top dman. Even adding if needed. Larsson is good but not great. And we still talk all the time about finding a more offensive right shot dman. The trade was a loss and anyone that say "well we made the playoffs derppp" isn't getting the big picture. We could have had a better dman than Larsson but Chia (frank)ed it up. More than once. Thank God Mact made that deal for Talbot that saved the team last year |

It's the same with the Eberle trade... according to the media his trade value was quite low. Teams knew we needed cap relief and they knew that McLellan wasn't happy with him. |

There is no way you can know that, it's pure speculation on your part and quite frankly mighty arrogant of you to assume you know what happens behind closed doors.

I always suspected there was some sort of 'Slats giving the Oils an advantage' in that trade... No doubt the Rangers had a couple of better offers on the table just prior to that trade... |

Agree that many's judgement is clouded by making the playoffs and how many other good things happened last year that can't be counted on to happen again. Jury is still out on who made the Talbot trade |

What is there to suspect? Slats came right out at the time of the trade and said and i quote" honouring the deal he had in place with Mact at the trade deadline" |

Nobody getting injured, Maroon shooting at almost 17% EV Strength, Lucic shooting 25% on the PP, Talbot having another franchise setting season. Throw in Sekera out for the beginning of the season and I don't see Edmonton finishing as high. |

Slats saying to the media: "honouring the deal he had in place with Mact at the trade deadline" - is a fact? - c'mon...
Like I just said; Rangers had a couple of offers just prior to that trade significantly better than the Oils offer... That's the part I don't understand. |
