Yup I tried to bet him we were taking Nurse and he said no way in hell they take another dman. He was going on and on about Nichushkin and how we screwed up not taking him. - Iggysbff
For like a day....then he put out a blog saying ' the sky is not falling' because they used a 1st rounder on Nurse.
Not surprised in hindsight that Hallfan was so pissed we didnt take Nichuschun or whatever. |

Steinley was going on for a while about that.
I was kinda ticked we traded down all those picks in the second round. I was big time on the William Carrier train and he got taken with the pick we traded away....we did end up with Slepy out of it though. |

Any team built with Draisaitl, Klefbom, and Talbot (AKA some of the best players at their positions in the world) has a chance to win. Also, that McDavid kid helps a bit. Edmonton is the newest powerhouse team, the team just need to shake off some dead weight (Kassian, Russell, Nurse) if they want to win. |

PC IS A MORON..
Nice to have most of the summer off. I've got pretty much all of August off and have been spending tons of time at our place in Fernie. Great summer so far.
You liking your team these days? Funny how they're much better after they got rid of a bunch of the dead weight I told your fans they needed to get rid of all those years... - Iggysbff
Fernie is (frank)ing fantastic, enjoy.
The team is light years ahead of where we were two years ago even. Best young Leaf team Ive ever watched. It's amazing what good management can do.
I am still concerned with D and McBackup. Could still use a lot of improvement there. |

I am not sure why Nurse is considered "dead weight" or "serviceable depth player".
He is a 22 y/o that has not even reached the 200 game level. |

AGe and experience mean nothing at this point. What exactly is he as it pertains to the Oilers today? A core player, an anchor of the defence? No, as of right now he belongs somewhere between 4 and 6 on the depth chart. He sure as (frank) isnt Dead weight as the dingaling suggested.
Will he be better in a couple hundred games? Yes. But the Oilers are not waiting for him to mature before they start trying to win, so he plays where he fits, and expectations should be realistic.
WTF are you talking about? |

Dead weight? They're serviceable depth players, no? - Larsson_fan
No. Not at all. Maybe in Colorado, since those 3 are better than not having players. Nurse is a massive bust. Kassian is bad at everything. Russell was an okay offensive dman, but he didn't produce last year, so he's also across the board terrible. |

Well, your analysis is wrong on every front.
Nurse hasn't reached the level of a top-4 Dman yet, but produced very solid results on the bottom pairing last year. I think his ceiling is that of a 25-35 point, 3-4 D with a varied kit and it's about 2 years too soon to judge whether or not he achieved that. His status as a bust depends on how high one's expectations of him were in the first place. If people thought he was a lock at a Chris Pronger or even an Alex Pietrangelo, than they're free to call him a bust (and to continue being stupid enough to project that).
Kassian was an excellent bottom-6 forward last year producing 1.74 P/60 (a number that would place him 7th on the Jets) while playing with a revolving door of linemates and seeing minimal time with McDavid or Draisaitl. He's fast, physically imposing, surprisingly has breakaway speed and kills penalties. He's everything you should want out of a bottom-6 forward.
Russell is too divisive of a topic for me to get into again so I'll just say you're wrong in calling him an offensive Dman. He was in the WHL and had a couple seasons of offensive success in the NHL, but has largely been tasked with and performed reasonably as a matchup Dman. This likely runs counter to your opinion so, if you'd like me to elaborate, I can repost an argument I posted a month ago on this very topic. |
