Using my all-powerful gift of foresight, I'll predict that the Capitals will be in rough shape if any of Backstrom, Orlov or Holtby struggle. Same for LA with Kopitar, Doughty or Quick. Chicago will be hard-pressed to compete if any of Kane, Keith and Crawford struggle.

I maintain that they looked like it by most measures. Then they systematically tore down half their team and- not unlike the Oilers circa 2015-16- almost all of their top young players (Ekblad, Barkov, Hubby and Bjugstad) were devastated by injuries.

And they've now traded or bought out enough of their offensive depth to cripple themselves as a reaction.

As Klefbom's single biggest supporter, I can assure you that the majority of people were aware that he LIKELY was our best; they just had understandable fears surrounding his injury history and about whether or not he could return to form. Aside from the Larsson trade, the merits of Klefbom were my second most discussed point last summer. The belief was more that Sekera would likely be more impactful due to his history of health than it was any detraction from Klefbom's actual abilities.

As for the other two, there isn't any debate. McDavid is an actual god and Talbot being our starting goaltender make up the list of most important players to a team. Who else could they have argued in favour of? I'm inclined to not believe this portion.
