Personally, I'd like to see more scoring. Seeing that decline hasn't helped the sport in my opinion is all. However, eliminating a bit more of the "clutching and grabbing" could help tremendously, you're right.

And 82 game schedule is ridiculous for such a physical sport. Issue is that unless it was drastically cut down, I'm not sure there would be any gain. Would players be better off at 70 games...maybe a little, but in the grand scheme of things, probably not much. At 41 games?...sure...but then you're cutting out half a year of hockey, which would hurt as well. Catch 22 there IMO.

Expansion team in Seattle evens out the conferences. 3 games against the teams in your division = 21 games. 2 games against the teams in the other division of your conference = 16 games. 1 game against each team from the west = 16 games. So a 53 game regular season and every team makes the playoffs.

Each division has their own playoffs. 1 vs 8, 2 vs 7, 3 vs 6, 4 vs 5. Division winners play each other in the conference finals. Playoffs would start in February and the season would be done in late April/early May. Players get an extra couple months of rest each off season. Teams take a haircut on about 15 or 16 home games, but they keep players healthier and the better teams would get a few extra playoff games.

I hate the idea of every team making the playoffs....but its also lame that that less than half make it as well...its getting to be like MLB, when most teams miss the playoffs.

I would add another round tho,as a qualifyer for wild card teams. Basically keep the for,at the same except team 7 plays team 10 and team 8 plays 9 in each conference in either a best of 3 or best of 5.
