well here is one. you get a pick back who maybe turns into something. you get something for nothing. valuable tdl asset, that's funny.

then you go sign a free agent to 1 year 1mm deal who will give you everything read does and maybe more.

as far as shedding $$$. you never know when a deal could pop up where you may need that space.

- rinaldo

If space needs to be made, it can be made. There's no need to preemptively waste an asset on the off-chance that we might need cap space.

If you drop Read, I'd much rather use one of the fringe, roster players that are battling for a spot; not a FA. That said, Read is still more valuable than all of them.

I can guarantee you that the Flyers will get more value for Read at the TDL as opposed to a 7th in the off-season. And I'd be willing to bet that he is actually traded this year. Just because a player is not living up to their cap hit does not mean they have no value. Sixteen teams make the playoffs. He would absolutely be a tempting asset as a TDL rental with a retained cap hit.

I agree, providing he doesn't fall flat this year.

Just first thought that comes to mind...who is your fourth line if no moves are made?

Could be interesting with 3 centers vying for the 4th line role along with Raffl/Read/Weise

FA or roster player doesn't matter. read is an asset now? good lord. Read having more value than those is like being the tallest midget. irrelevant.

you cant guarantee any such thing. really going out on a limb saying he will be traded.

how can cap space be easily made?

An all situations forward who scores 10-15 goals and 25-30 points is an asset at the TDL for sure. If you really want to go out on a limb, think Patrick Eaves. Read has had a similar career to him, so what's saying he can't rebound in a similar fashion. Then how much is he worth? Not expecting it but can't rule it out either.

I'm not as quick to pen Patrick into the opening day lineup as of yet. Coming off a double sports hernia, I wouldn't be shocked to see him sent down to round himself into shape back in Brandon instead of here.

It took Giroux and Ghost practically the entire year you get back close to feeling 100% after similar issues - though both had to deal with hip injuries as well - so I can see why Hextall wouldn't want Patrick to have to basically play himself back into shape with the Flyers.

Ron's preaching patience so why rush?

By all accounts Patrick is well advanced past the Junior hockey level so I don't see the Flyers sending him back to Juniors, where he would have to spend the entire season to play another season down there, even if he is behind somewhat physically in camp.

19 points last year and a steady decline for how many years in a row now? he has shown no inclination to rebound. none.

such an asset he wasn't moved last year. teams are lining up for the matt reads of the world.

I had similar thoughts but everything I hear says there is nothing left for him to learn in junior. I think in the small chance he get's returned, the Flyers may demand Brandon trades his rights to a memorial cup contender.

He also only played just over 60 games on a team that struggled offensively top to bottom. Show me the indicators before last season that Eaves was going to break out at age 33.

Moving a player with a year left of an inflated cap hit is a different discussion then moving an expiring UFA with retained salary.

This is a PSA:

Sports hernia surgeries are low risk, low concern surgeries. Teens can get these repaired and be out there in a few months at 100%. Hell, BiggE could get one done and be fine in a few weeks. Sports hernias are not a big deal.

I repeat: sports hernias are not a big deal.

Say it with me!

He missed practically the entire year last year. And is coming off a difficult surgery which takes a while to get back up to speed with (no pun intended).

I don't know what the plans are yet. I'm sure the team is taking it one day at a time. But if he's not progressing as quickly as they feel he should, and they won't know until he's back on the ice participating in contact drills, All I'm saying is that I wouldn't be surprised to see him sent back.

Why make your most valued pick struggle at 70% against much stronger men when you can let him progress more evenly back in Brandon?

I see your point but he at least needs to go to a team that gives him a chance at playing meaningful hockey. I would love to see him in the World Juniors but am not expecting it.

Don't tell Mikey Miss that. He's basically already written Patrick off as a walking injury waiting to happen.

Teens obviously don't drink enough scotch.

So yes, we have a doctor telling us that more kids need to become alcoholics.

Boo that man.
