Carol Schram: Surgery sidelines Vancouver Canucks prospect Will Lockwood from Team USA
Though he was named to Team USA's summer roster for the 2018 world junior tournament, offseason shoulder surgery will keep Will Lockwood off the ice until September.

Thanks Carol

Interesting article on Demer's and why he may have not waived. Considering he went from Dallas to Florida finances may have played a big role in his NTC options.

- CanuckDon

One thing that article failed to mention was the fact he is being paid in US dollars but living in Canada, his money is worth 25-30% more.

Sorry let me rephrase that, if he was traded to Van and living in Van.

Another reason we have to overpay to get players.

So you're saying we'll have to pay the Sedins 8 mil each to extend them?

He's a tough little guy and will get his due. Still would like see the top 6 beefed up on the wing and with speed. The only talent in the system that might have a chance now is JV. One would like to think Gadjovich could but he's further away from proving it and his skating is lacking.

The next draft Canucks probably will try for a #1D or #1C type. There is the Svetchnikov RW kid as an outlier to that depending where they pick. Same could be said for 2019 as well. It will take a few drafts of D and C additions. Thus, the power top talent winger would still be missing from the pool.

But let's say at 2018 draft Canucks have added to top D. Then they could, if available, beef up the wing top 6 in free agency with a Kane signing. Hockey wise he brings speed, scoring and power.

This would allow the 2018 roster to dramatically change the top 9. Kane could be paired with Bo & BB. Then another line would need a player with elite speed, shooting & can thump. JV has that. But he's not a creator of offense and it has hurt his production. Though he could complement high hockey IQ Dahlen & EP because they ooze creativity. They drive while JV powers. As long as JV puts in the work and plays a simple game his talent would work with them.

Fair point but the cost of living is WAY higher in vancouver. You are right that it's a simplistic article but the article is still correct. Cost of living in Florida is hilariously low

It's unwatchable. Even reporters who are huge fans can't watch it. It's sad because it's a huge part of canadian history, but the league is a disgrace.

Totally agree.

It's almost like I kinda feel sorry for die hard CFL fans for some reason. I can't explain it.

is that counting the several premium cricket leagues as well?

I dont have any opinion on the cfl vs nfl but in my practice I treat several retired players from those leagues so I'll relay their comments. Most of them have played in both leagues. It seems to be their opinion unanimously that the cfl is a better game. No one commented on how it was run on anything but they did say they became a better player playing in the cfl due to differences in the game.

Thats their comments which I found interesting.

posters on here don't like gaunce lol, hes just finding his way from a scorer in junior to a defensive checking forward and hes made strides and hes still a young guy and I like him and I think he keeps improving and then the tune changes here lol.
- Bettmanhatesus

There's a contingent who appreciate Gaunce.

He's one of the best defensive forwards on the team, with room to grow offensively.

His AHL pace in 15-16 would have put him in the top 10 in AHL scoring as a 2nd year pro.

There will be parades in Vancouver if Virtanen can come close to that in his 3rd pro season at the same age.

It's difficult to develop an offensive game in the NHL getting ~8min or less a game with mostly D-zone starts.

very true, not sure how people here expect more from that, very hard to score when youre in own zone the whole game.

while I do think gaunce is defensively good, do you think gaunce is better defensively than sutter?
