No sparring, just looking at stats. Nylander scored slightly lower than an excellent Canuck player in his rookie year. 61 points in 81 games, Bure scored 60 in 65 games. What is a footnote to this is that Bure scored his rookie points when there was much more scoring in the NHL. To me Tanev can be compared to a player also from Vancouver - Harold Snepts. Now ask yourself - would you trade Bure for Snepts straight up?

And 1 is a HOFer & was great in a cup run.
Idk how u can compare Bure to Nylander. Not even close.

Would you be willing to do Bozak for Marc Staal and two 2nds? We'll even eat $2M of his salary.

...please??

I have the papers right here.

Historically i've dissed the Leafs due to management ineptitude.
I reverse that these days which is their due & well earned at that.

What i do claim is obvious....
Top 2 shutdown D for Reilly goes a long ways.
At what price is difficult & the timing may not be right yet.
Liljegrin is a nice pick but years away yet.
The present is very bright & ripe in the Atlantic division.

I understand most realistic posters here but to get a Tanev or any other D in a trade is not an easy task either. UFA's r pricey & not often available.

Yeah but all players are different.. It really doesnt mean a ton to be honest. Its nice but its not like we can bank on Nylander being better then Henrick because his first season and a bit has been better. Henrick was one of the best in the league for years and won an art ross didnt he?

I agree with with all of this, for what it's worth.

Your posts have been pretty spot on. Nice to see a Nucks fan not being a Richard.

It is a tough market for D. Tanev would be a nice fit except the injury bug thing would concern me.

I still think the Ducks are going to move a young D for scoring up front. JVR and a pick or one of our young wingers and a pic????

I'm not good with trade suggestions but I think there are a few scenarios that are still possible before the season begins.

Pretty sure management sees the same things you are posting. I think Lou will get one more move done this summer.

Good luck on the west coast, you guys need some work but hopefully you don't get stuck in the same poop we were in for years.

fair. very early.

but there is a lot of high-end talent on this team. and fun to see what these guys are potentially tracking too early on.

Yeah i know its exciting. I really like Nylander, probably my favourite leaf actually. But RNH had 76 points in his first 102 games Nylander has 74 in his first 103. So while its easy to compare Nylander to Henricks first few seasons, also easy to compare him to a guy like RNH

In general, the prices paid for middle of the road d-men like Hamonic and Larsson recently have been very high imo. Larsson was a high pick, but underperformed and still hasn't shown a great deal in the NHL. Hall on the other hand, at least offensively is a dynamic player. NJ made out like bandits. Surprisingly, Garth Snow - certainly not one of the better GM's in the league fleeced Calgary on the Hamonic trade. I understand that in a salary cap world, contract has an important role in a trade. Even if you have a great d-man, if he is paid $10 mil, not every team can fit that in, age and term can be an issue etc. The Leafs drafted Liljegren, who was much to the amazement of many still available at 17. Leafs are not ready to compete yet for the cup this year. Realistically they can aim for 100 points. They can add one or two decent d-men of the ilk of say Colin Miller or possibly Josh Manson or maybe Tyson Barrie, without moving either Nylander or Marner. This is the course for this team.
- winsix

Larsson is a lot better then people give him credit for...1st in GA over like a 4 yr period....played the heaviest minutes on his team. I think Edm made a good trade...could they have fetched a pick or a prospect...mabye, but NJ probably said take it or leave it...as we see with our own scenario, it's not easy trying to get a top pairing D.

Thx i appreciate u seeing i try and avoid any bias getting in the way.
As for the Ducks i see lots of patience there.
I also don't like player comparisons.
Anyone can state stats & every player is his own person.

As for our poop team thats the price of contending & no picks & poor drafting & no prospects being developed for so many years. Our current prospect pool is unheard of here & totally new to us. The pain will happen here but thats expected.

1st pairing D on i'd say 60-80% of NHL teams have no chance of putting up the same #'s as 2nd pair/3rd pair D. IMO

Yeah, RHN’s career can hit a bit of down slope offensively. Could happen to anybody.

But (frank) it, I’m enjoying the blue kool-aid this time of year.

Matthews is a better player no question, Nylander is my favourite to watch play. Shot, skating, passing everything is exciting about how he plays. Matthews is an all around better player though.watching nylanders world championship highlights on YouTube is why hes my favourite player
