carey price last four seasons: god tier

robin lehner last four seasons: anger management(missed it obviously) and the quiet room

if you offered a gm roslovic and white for kane and lehner i get the sense that most of them if not all would say yes.

Edit: and bogo's contract

lol

niemi got 2.75 after winning a cup with the hawks.

he's not getting six mil

- Sabresfan-365

He'll get over 5. Im certain of that.

5 would put him as the ~18th highest paid goalie

the simple fact is, no matter what the scouts say and no matter what any hockey man thinks, prospects outside the upper echelon are all about potential...

people forget how often the word "potential" was used for most of the 20th century in buffalo

Best guess 4.5-5 is my guess, has never won anything, younger less established than the guys ahead him.

i dont disagree, but when you're early in the rebuild its all about potential. collect as much of it as you can and hope you can hit big on some (or even one) of the guys you picked outside the top 5

he had a good year statistically but i dont know the last time a goalie was given a massive arbitration win because of one year that didnt have any playoff success in it.

This is the current thinking.

But then again, the current thinking will change sometime.

what if the individuals Murray would have drafted would have less of an impact than Kane and Lehner?

Not only that, two years later they still haven't helped their teams what so ever. Counterpoint is our team didn't progress in year 2, which is why the GM and coach were fired. Amongst other things..

Murray was far from perfect, but ripping him on some of the trades is subjective based on your optimism of draft picks. You're either on the Gerbe side (don't you dare ever trade picks!!!@) or the Jr side (Trade all the picks for a top 4 dman!!!!!!)

You need to wait years to figure out who came out on the better end when it comes to picks for players. Kane is a good player. Lehner is a good player. I challenge you to prove that the guys, the unknown guys that Murray would have picked, will help their respective teams more than who we picked up.

I dont consider 5MM massive arb.
5MM is less than AVG for a starter.

Lehner has not shown us 5mil per consistency and if we sign him to more than 1 or 2 years i'll freak out.

.924 and .920 as a Sabre, though. Minus the shootout, he's been consistent. GAA isn't great, but I view that more as a team stat than a goalie stat

GAA does not tell the whole story. He has been good at times, even stretches, but he is not LTD worthy yet. I'd let the arbitration decide his one year worth, see how he plays this year, and if he is great (gets us into playoffs) then we talk LTD

I think when he's been in net, he's been better than half the starting goalies in the league. Which indicates he's going to be paid like an average starting goalie. Which is between 4-5.
