For one who did not want Shatty signed here initially at all due do "his poor defense", & then later, (although rightfully so like many), due to the 7 years extended term, you would want another critical player we need, (though lower NHL ranked overall than a Shatty), signed for 7 years, who suffered a serious leg injury last season as well?
The contact involved in the world's fastest team sport makes any player prone to suffering more easily again that same type, or another similar injury in relation. Should Zib experience this, &/or acquire alone some ongoing related condition later on as a result, would the Rangers have the same "luck" as they did with Klein last week, in being rescued? That's why you cannot offer him a 7 year deal in the likely $4.5M to $5.5M range that the arbitrator would award.
Due to that injury, I would offer him up to $5.5M, but at a shorter deal than even 5 years, taking the chance it may cost them more in the long run. But at least then, they would be much more assured that Zib's health and game would have not at all been hampered by his 2016 serious leg injury. The possible effects that could linger from that injury is also the reason I feel why the 2 parties have not yet been able to agree on a new contract. - RangerSaver
For the $$ and term (7 years) that were rumored, I wanted nothing to do with a guy that would be playing 6 of those years in his 30's. Zib is a completely different situation that would only be in his 30's for 2 of the 7. Zib looked full you recovered in the playoffs but it did take a while to get back into shape.

He broke his leg. Bones heal completely given the correct rehab, which you can be sure he got. Actually, they generally heal stronger than they were initially. It's not like he ripped apart a knee or a shoulder. Your argument holds no weight (unlike Zibs leg). |

Love those cars.
I had these cars: 1986 Mercury Grand Marquee(auto) 1995 Saturn SL1 manual, 1988 Bronco II (auto) 1994 Saturn SL1 manual.
Still have all of these: 1971 Mustang Mach 1 manual, 2005 RSX (Integra) Type-S manual, 1983 Camaro Z28 manual.
Also have a 1984 Bronco II project that's a stick. |

Lacrosse is huge in Scandinavia
Many hockey players, like myself, played football (refuse to call it soccer) in the summer.
And for sure, football in Norway is nothing like what the clowns do in the Mediterranian countries and in South-America. Football in Scandinavia and in England is a physical sport and those who fall down and whine for everything doesn't last long... |

Yea premier league is the best of the European leagues thanks to the players playing and not acting half the time. The one good thing about the MLS is it's a more physical league with not much diving too. |

Was that the one with the two seats in the bed? - mdw7413
Yup! My buddy always wanted to ride in the back, so we always dove through the biggest puddle we could find.
Second Brat didn't have the seats.
That thing was a blast to drive. I would buy one if I hit the lottery. Not a Ferrari, a Brat. |

My friends dad had one. Sitting in the back was awesome. Couldn't remember if that was the brat. |

I remember when we kicked some Sandinista ass back in the 80s. - B2B76
My friend from there married his wife from France there. They also live in NYC.
Yeah the Sandinista parade was on Friday and I got stuck in it. They're still celebrating their government for overthrowing the dictatorship. |

I agree that after taking some time to get back into shape, Zib appeared to have fully recovered from his serious leg injury. But, my point was that due to his type of injury, (or be it any severe ligament, tendon, muscle, etc. internal type one), a player having suffered one becomes more easily prone for another exact re-occurrence or related to type one, in the world's fastest speed contact team sport.
As an example, even a mild foot strain injury, (& not even a sprain), if despite thinking so, is not healed properly, can more easily cause any human being upon a sudden wrong movement, to even tear a calf muscle, since there are nerves in the foot that connect to the lower leg. Imagine what the same would be like for one at an NHL speed and contact force.
In addition, as Jan wrote in his blog, NHL arbitration cases are allowed to take into account "injuries & illnesses" as one deciding factor. That's why I feel the two parties are at odds. I do not think the Rangers have a problem with the $4.5M to $5.5M likely salary range to make a deal prior to Zib's hearing date. It is the number of years' term that's the issue, due to his 2016 severe leg injury. |
