Also the Canes just signed Jaccob Slavin to extenison, 7 years 37.1 million. If Skjei has another season like he had this past year, do you bridge him or sign him to a comparable contract in context to Slavin?

Gotta go the McDonagh route. Isn't he one of the few that was signed to term and not a bridge? |

I mean to sign Draisaitl to that deal would be like two 1st's, a 2nd and 3rd or four 1st's. Not thrilled with that. However, the Rangers have nobody to replace Kreider and Miller. Day is the Rangers best N.A. prospect. No on all accounts there. - tomburton99
Yeah, it would be an absolutely crippling decision in any form. Good thing it can't happen and Sather isn't making decisions anymore. |

It's a risk/reward signing young guys to long-term deals at affordable numbers. If Skjei turns out to be a bonafide good, or better, defenseman and you lock him up next year for 7-8 years at something like $4M or so then that deal becomes an absolute steal.
If he, for some reason (and I'm not expecting him to), totally falls apart then you're stuck with a garbage player on a long-term deal at a moderate price. |

I think the risk is overstated, because a lot of times you can either a) retain some salary or b) get someone to think maybe he just needs a "change of scenery"
The benefit of having a player locked up through his entire prime at a reasonable cap hit is far greater |

Yeah I think Skjei is going to just get better. Don't think there is much risk there. |

You make my brain hurt.. but back on topic..
Kadri? No thanks, & he's slotted as torontos #2 if they trade Bozak so, again, no.
Duchene? Do you have any idea the kings ransom Sakic is asking for? no thanks
Draisaitl? Please..
Let's be realistic here. |

This isn't just my guess, but by the time McD contract is up I need 2 years either McD or Skjei won't be here, one will be moved. |

Why can't you understand that Left and Right defensive positions are not interchangeable???
Skjei is not going to be our #1 RHD. He may be our #1 LHD, and while Mac is on the contract he is, we could have a very formidable D corp. Or, Mac could be traded, because he is a known commodity on a great contract.
Personally, I'd like to let it ride this year and see what our boys can produce. We have a number of good looking prospects for the first time in quite some time. Don't mortgage the future just to take a run before Hank is gone. I'd love to see him win as much as any, but making big moves in the summer doesn't guarantee anything. Trading away all your good young players guarantees long term misery. |
