Totally, I just thought it was a funny side note that he has not shot a puck in the net yet.

If it happens I think, like Utica, it will take him a few seasons to get comfortable and work his way into a role where he could put up some offense. When I watched him last year he didnt look comfortable, lots of skating in circles and chasing pucks. Once he catches onto the pace and can make better reads, he could possibly produce

I agree it is funny....didn't he have a goal called back on him as well that also bounced off of his ass?

At the very least he can kill penalties, win more draws than he loses and not be a liability. I think he will need to do more to stay in the NHL but he's smart ( just finished his degree I believe while playing) and willing to work as he has improved albeit slowly at every level to the point where he was a key player.

If we were looking at the same lineup as last year, I probably would take the over on 9 points, but with the additions in camp - Gagner, Burmistrov, and I'll count Boeser, Rodin, Molino and even Goldobin in that group since they were barely there last year and he has a lot of bodies to beat out for opportunity.

Even if those guys dont make the team out of camp, I think they get the injury call up and get placed on PP and scoring lines before Gaunce gets a sniff

EDIT: And lets not forget, his ONE career goal bounced in off him. He has never shot a puck in the net during an NHL game

- WhiteLie

This is how I see it. Competition will push him down the depth stockpile with all these additions. I do expect him to fight harder for a spot than we've seen in the past but he'll fall short. Future Comets leader... With his ceiling being a 4rth line winger, he won't be missed. One day he might be a damn good temp call up for bottom 6...we'll see.

I'm sure I can find some examples of players that went on to have solid careers after only putting up 1 goal in their first 80 games.

I agree with what you are saying about the competition though, Gaunce if he makes the team will not be given offensive opportunities over the names you mentioned. That said Gaunce broke out for Green offensively when he was shifted back to C in UTica when they were devastated with injuries. I think he gets a chance to play with some actual NHL talent rather than Chaput/Skille/Megna and we get a better idea of if he can contribute offensively.

It will be interesting to see how Green's relationship with guys like Gaunce, Baertschi, Beiga, Pedan, Subban will influence their opportunities.

If Green can squeeze offense out of Gaunce, then think what he may do with the better players he replaces Gaunce with

good point. I'm not as convinced he is the black hole he is sometimes depicted as.

I totally agree with that. I thought Gaunce was decent at creating turn overs with his tiny amount of ice time but turn overs are pointless when there's no one to get the puck too... many times he would get the puck and rip it through the slot and his line mates would already be racing back to the bench or on the boards still...

I'll take the over on that bet.

5 players scored more points than Gaunce who played less minutes per game and only 8 players outscored him who averaged up 30 seconds more ice time per game.

17 players basically outscored Gaunce last year in the NHL while playing similar minutes. Not bad for a rookie who despite not scoring was doing some other good things on the ice.

Like it or not Gaunce is the only player this mgmt has allowed to follow a regular development path so far and while it might not be quick enough for some, this is the usual path for prospects.

- belcherbd

So you're saying that guance played the 6th fewest minutes inn the nhl last year.... thats all i gout from this post.

Love that this is the topic

True, I've also heard about the state of emergency that Nevada has declared over its cannabis shortage. True story by the way.

So on my prospect and waived player post survey looks like you are down as 1 & 1 thus far. Anymore?

Plus what about part 3 as to any trade predictions until TDL?

This is why I think he will be on the roster and some of those others will not. He is a safe player and can play a role that a lot of the organization's younger players are not suited for.

Its fun to make fun of his lack of scoring prowess, but no reason he cant aim to fit the mold of a Malhotra type bottom 6 player

Out of the prospects or hopefuls within Canuck organization who is likely the next Burrows? The long shot player not drafted but rises from the lowly ECHL ranks.

My money would be on MacEwen. If AHL roster gets crowded and he could be sent for a stint to Kalamazoo for top minitues. So he could get his pro game pace from junior.

He did create turn overs but not many turned into scoring chances.

Any idiot can post a line up. They need to find chemistry to make it work. I prefer getting younger.

Have the Sedins killing more penalties and spread the PP to the younger players. Offence is the key. If the Sedins want to contribute they have to become PP2 and 3rd liners. Its sad but it needs to happen
