As a UFA JVR is definitely getting $7m. Look around at the comps.

If he's traded, that team will have the 8 year option and should be able to negotiate less of a hit for that extra year. It makes better sense.

I believe they're closer than you think, A couple of bounces or non calls last year and they'd have been playing Pittsburg.

Pens got lucky/flukey on their road to the cup!imho an ottawa Cinderella team,and a Nashville team with out their top center! And not much scoring depth! You could argue that they didn't have letang?..but obviously he was not a factor at all ! Plus both Washington and Nashville goalies got cold or kinda sucked?

Who was pitts first line center(Crosby ) and Nashvilles? we've now seen pitts win two cups with less then an Allstar dcore! Edmonton with mcdavid! I agree - overzealous for sure. There is no doubting though that there is a changing of the guard taking place. Teams like Edmonton, Calgary, Nashville are on the way up in the west. And just ask yourself - if Pittsburgh made it to the final next year and were facing Edmonton - which team would you favour. I would take Edmonton. Toronto is on the way up but are still probably another year from contending - but stranger things have happened. Once Liljegren is in the NHL this team will be ready to contend for a cup barring injuries.

Marleau is a s good and better in most if not all aspects of the game, Plus JVR is gonna want a max time contract.

Note Marleau hasn't missed a game in 9 years, and has missed about 30 in his 19 year career.

Marleau is going to be 38 when the season starts, im excited to add him but 6.25 for 3 years was a hefty price to pay for him. Im hoping it works out, and we get at least two decent years out of him.
