I agree with the over valued D...probably why a trade hasnt happened...but letting him walk would be a mistake IMO...he's not what makes the team tick IMO but I totally get what you're thinking...just don't think this is the year for the team to go for it and lose out on the assets he could bring at TDL or over the next couple months.

I believe they're closer than you think, A couple of bounces or non calls last year and they'd have been playing Pittsburg.
And they have the speed to keep up with them.

I agree, the kid is special. Besides the moves, the goal scoring and great hockey - some of the intangibles for me were impressive. Never saw him complain to a ref once the whole season, did not see him retaliate once, even though he took significant abuse and a few really cheap shots. When watching him in an interview, its about the fans and his team mates not about himself. Pretty rare stuff I'd say.

We got some bounces too....ie....puck off the stanchion right onto Matthews stick in game 6 which helped send it to OT and we lost

They had a taste, they'll want more and they're so young they'll expect it.

I said maybe...Leivo hasn't really been given a lot of ice but has put up some good #'s....I'd like to keep JVR I just don't think we can get a D worth anything without giving up something...plus I'm not sure we can afford what he'll want as a salary after this year. What do you want to see happen?

That's the biggest issue with keeping JVR, IMO.

I think inserting Leivo and/or Kapanen in the line up will offset the loss of offense and Cap concerns for next season.

JVR at 7x7 is hard to fit.

JVR has value to a few teams needing a scoring winger for a Cup run this year.

It's not just that we really need D and he's the best trade chip....which we do and he is....but it's also we can't afford him next season and definitely not the season after. He has the most value now and not at the TDD.

Shuffle the lines up a bit and his 25-30 won't be missed.

FILL(Kap 20g), Matthews, Nylander
Marleau (20g), Bozak, Marner
Koma, Kadri, Brown
Martin, Moore, FILL (Hyman still 10g with Moore)

We add an extra 10Gs.

I want to see a long playoff run and if he walks after that for more money screw him, he has to know his best shot at cup is here.
Trading him plus plus for an over valued defenseman isn't worth it.
