That's where I think you're wrong. Marner isn't significantly better than Nylander, at least not yet.
- Arctic_AARDVARK

I think the contracts will be signed in 1 (or 2) seasons from now.
By that time, my expectations are that Marner will have proven himself as a legitimate elite player in NHL (top 20 FW).

Don't forget that Nylander has played already 4 pro seasons (with adults) while Marner just had his first pro season, in addition being 1 full year younger.
It's natural that Nylander is a bit further in his development at this time.

I'll give it to Nylander that he has higher probability to make it as a C - that would give him some extra value.

in any case I expect Marner to pan out as a player that will have the highest impact on the team performance, making all players around him better.

(just to be clear; I think Nylander is a very good player).

(just to be clear; I think Nylander will be traded along with a 1st to Vancouver for Tanev).

I agree you need three scoring lines but I think the 3rd is still the classic 'checking line'. Matthews line had offensive zone starts sometimes against strong lines head to head sometimes checking units.

Kadri getting buried in the D zone against all the top stars in the East is closest to a checking line. He's rewarded with no PK and lots of time on the power play.

- Blazed

I think it's changing though. Coaches going more power on power at the top. Choosing to have more 2way/200ft players in the top 6 and then having a sheltered offensive line. A lot of the top teams have gone that way, Pitts won the last 2 cups with that sort of lineup.

No, a loser would suggest trading Nylander for a poop defenceman after his first NHL season. Know anyone like that?

Can't we all be friends and focus our hate on Sens and Nucks fans (and maybe the Habs to a lesser degree just so they know we haven't forgotten about them)?

A loser would say something like: how can you tell he's a poop defenceman after only his first NHL season....

Don't rest there.... Let's talk forwards.
Maybe if we ask Max realy nicely, he will build us a line up with Thornton, Marleau, Iginla, Doan and Jagr in it!

According to HOHO, the likes of Leivo, Soshnikov etc. ("because YOUNG and SPEEDY!!") are better than Jagr, Thornton, Marleau...

Well Thornton and Marleau are paid 8 and 6.25M respectively.

I feel like it's easier to fit in a Leivo and those guys.

Jagr on the other hand... gotta wonder what happens with him....
