based on what? all that ice time? the pk time and the pp time? all the important degensive zone draws they rely on bozak for? Bozak is a huge part if the Leafs and he will be with us for years to come. i dont understand all the bozak hate from leafs fans on this site... we get it.. he is not crosby... hell he is not even getzlaf. hes just bozak and he is great at what he does

IMO hornqvist for Bozak is a fair trade. Not sure that fits the leafs need but the value for both sides is present.

Sheary should only be traded for a long-term 3c solution not a one year rental like bozak.

I don't see us having any other really interesting trade pieces for other teams. Maatta as part of a bigger deal but I prefer to keep him.

What is the value in the leafs with Hornqvuist? We already have way to many right handed forwards.

value wise, i don't think it's far off. if the leafs are looking to move nylander to 3C, than hornqvist can fill a hole on the right side.

it doesn't help us get out of salary cap jail before training camp. we also have decent depth at RW and could be looking to fill the role with a younger player.

Just the "typical" Pens fan jumping on the trade Hornqvist train believing every other team in the NHL could use him. Horny will be going no where despite many fans already having traded him out of Pittsburgh.

Yeah. Kasperi Kappinen. Also don't forget Hyman is a natural RW as well. And we have 20 goal scorer Conner Brown playing on the third line.
Leafs biggest depth is at RW.
Trading away Bozak for a winger makes zero sense. Trading away Bozak for anything other than as part of a package a top 4 defensemen makes zero sense. He is worth more to us than anything we'd get back outside of this scenario.

The only real surplus the Penguins have is at wing. Specifically, right wing. Of our wings, Sheary represents the best combination of value and expend-ability.

I think our 3rd line C quest should revolve around Sheary unless its a much bigger fish (which I don't necessarily advocate).

- YouMeAndDupuis9

Please no. Until I see more of Sprong and Hornq is back in the good books, I would be hesitant to move Sheary.

Proven playoff performer. Stylistically teams like having a guy like him at that time of year. He's the best net front presence in the league. Takes a lot of abuse. Two-time stanley cup champion experience would bring value to your team.

Personally I think its time to move on from him, but a lot of people would hate to trade him.

I'm not saying its a big need for your team; but its fair value. Respect the fact its fair value even if maybe its not a deal that fixes toronto's problems.

Those are all correct thoughts. And 3c is far more important than a suplus rw. You can't fill an important position like 3c without giving up something of value. And 3C is especially important for us since its Kessel's center.

Hornqvist and Bozak are likely in the same boat. Even though their teams may move on from them next year, they have more value to their teams this year then what they would get in return. Teams with expectations let guys like them finish oit their last year. The only exception would be if one of them needed the cap space right now.

What about Jvr and bozak for geutzel and Shultz?

The leafs derailed there ability to get a top 4 right shot deffencemen with there free agent signings so now they need to get creative.

Jvr for cal foote and suster

Then bozak suster and a affordable winger for Shultz

Shultz is the only player on Pittsburgs line of any real value concerning the leafs needs. As for loosing a center nylander should be given his own line so he can be payed in his next contract based on his performance at the position he is projected to play. Not to cash in on playing winger to a goal scoring machine. Just pay attention to the oilers situation with McDebt and drisitel and take pride in not being cherelli

- BrainSap

I'd say there's a 0.0% chance of the Pens moving Guentzel.

Agreed. I feel very strongly that Sprong is the real deal, but until he shows it you don't move a solid young commodity.

JVR and Bozak for schultz and guentzel would be one of the worst trades the nhl has seen in decades. Two expensive UFA guys for two superior players who are cost controlled (one at a bargain basement rate).

Swap Bozak to Nylander and its still a bad deal.

William Nylander has already played 20 some odd games as a centre in the final part of the year Toronto finished 30th. He had a 53% CF rating in those games (or there abouts, I'm going off memory here).

Not putting Nylander at centre would be a huge mistake for Toronto and I don't think they'll add a centre when they inevitably move on from Bozak this summer.

Fans of teams who think they are just going to get Bozak for spare parts are either clueless of what Bozak brings to the table or just your typical homer hockey fan.
Bozak is not in the Leafs long term plans (due to depth at C position when Nylander inevitably moves there) but is a pretty important piece for this Leaf team and/or any other team that acquires him.

filpulla rejected a trade to toronto

http://www.sportsnet.ca/h...-nixed-trade-maple-leafs/

the rumored trade he rejected included bozak.

i really don't think he's part of the long-term plans.

- Tumbleweed

Wow, do you know if it was a straight up trade or more included on Tampa's end?

Wow, I mean this is just horrible from the Pen's side. Salary cap problems set aside, Guentzel doesn't have any value??? Seriously, I know people throw out bad trade offers on here, but you win for the day.

Talent wise it is equal. Both are pending UFA's. So from that aspect it is equal.

But it is not fair value. Value is based on need.
Bozak is the third best center on the leafs. Maybe second ahead of Kadri.
Hornvqvuist would be the 4th line right winger on the leafs behind Marner, Brown, and Nylander. 3rd line if Nylander moves over.
So no, in trade for the leafs it is not fair value. The leafs are worse after trading Bozak for Hornqvuist, not better.

We can survive without Sheary. We wont win a cup with Carter Rowney as our 3rd line C.

You could be right in this. Hard to justify trading sonething big for Bozak as a rental.

Had thought they supposedly wanted to move him to clear salary, but that's not what the Leaf fans are saying. And they're right, Toronto isn't in a sell for picks or prospects spot.

- Tojo.

Leaf fans can say what they want, but the simple fact is that we can't even sign Brown until we clear salary. So it's going to happen. It may not be Bozak at this point, but it'll be someone with significant salary...JVR and/or Leo is my guess.

Not true.
We have over ten million in cap space once the season starts and Lupol/Horton go on LTIR. Brown might have to miss the first game but otherwise, not an issue.
Leafs do not need to make any moves at all aside from maybe trading some bubble players (Leivo/MArchenko/Marincin) before (if the would even) they get lost on waivers.

Honest question, what do Leaf fans expect to get?

Bozak (and JVR) are good, but not great, players on expiring contracts. Teams that would want them are contenders, but who is going to give up say a top 4 defenseman for one of them. Particularly a righty, not many teams have a spare one sitting around. If they did, you'd here about him in a deal for Duchene.
