So IF he gets traded timing will be everything on the return
- SMBDragon

the timing was before the draft, and before Tanev's clause had kicked in lol

Chris Tanev 20017/18 clause details: Lists 8 teams to which he cannot be traded.

Perhaps statistically but Tanev is younger and has a great contract. Moreover, let's assess how Chicago fair's in Hammers absence before concluding either guys worth.

In all seriousness, if the offers are in the range of a mid to late 1st, then I hope Benning keeps him around. Tanev has the skill and youth to be a mainstay throughout the rebuild and perhaps even into competitiveness.

If Toronto's calling, take no less than Liljegren. We don't need wingers and their pick will likely be mid-range to late.

- Whiskey-Tango

ya Id have to agree there. Not so sure TO are that big on liljegren anyways since they didnt make a big stink about it after they made the pick or since.

The "M" is a big time saver. Imagine being handcuffed on making deals by Chris Tanev

Leafs' marketing department are hard at work promoting him...

Also Tanev is on a team who was bottom 3 in EVERY major offensive category, and also bottom in most defensive categories as well yet Tanev put up better defensive stats.

This franchise tosses them out like candy. I guess if the canucks want players to stay/play they got to pay.

It's one of those things you simply don't notice until they are gone. Guys like Tanev, Hammer, Larsson etc play such a safe, responsible game that for the most part, the average fan doesn't notice. Remove them from the equation and things like transitioning the puck becomes a massive issue.

But whatever....let the Toronto fans mock Tanevs goal production lol. Perhaps one day when they actually possess a guy capable of playing defense, they will understand our adversion to trading the guy for peanuts.

lol what other incentives do free agents have of coming and playing for the Canucks.

1) the clauses
2) opportunity on a bad roster to rejuvenate their career

Agreed. Chris Tanev is good n all, but the first year of his deal it was the 51st highest cap hit for a defenseman, now its 60th (with some worse players above, and better players below him on the list), so it isnt like they got a massive cut from him in exchange for it

Tanev is worth a late 1st-early2nd...that's it.
- LordHumungous

So Tanev is worth the same as Hansen essentially?

I think TDL deals are hard to use as a comparison. Teams looking for something specific to balance out their roster or some teams dumping contracts to avoid free agency dealings. Prices paid at the TDL aren't a true reflection on the market.

Basically they hyped 3 players who were top 5 picks ..one being generational

And didn't with a mid first rounder in a weak draft

Seems fairly standard to me

I think subban was called up but never saw game action.

Anyone know anything about Holm?

- SMBDragon

This is from an article on Pass it to Bulis:

There’s a lot to like about the signing: the left-shooting Holm had a breakout season for the Lakers, going from 7 points in the previous season to 21 points in 52 games and a league-leading plus-24. He’s not pegged as an offensive defenceman, however, receiving little time on the power play. Instead, he’s described as “a mobile defensive defenceman who has a real good work ethic” and a “good skater, puck retriever, and puck mover,” according to Bob McKenzie.

It’s also encouraging that Holm had other suitors like the Chicago Blackhawks and Toronto Maple Leafs. As an added bonus, he won’t have to go through waivers if he’s assigned to the Utica Comets and doesn’t have to be protected for the expansion draft.

Connor Murphy being a former 1st rounder, to me, is irrelevant. Our team is loaded with former 1st rounders now lol. Murphy (a solid 2nd or third pairing D-man) and a prospect (which I think would be fair to say of Daulphin) is hardly the return you think you would see for a player like Hjalmarsson (who I believe was playing top pairing minutes with Keith for the last 2 seasons?). I don't think Chicago did very well in this trade, even with their cap situation.
- Codes1087

You're right and I agree, I think they could've done better, but to say Murphy and Daulphin are worth pennies isn't accurate, that's all I was pointing out.

but at the end of the day, F^&K the Hawks

He appears to be a similar type of player. I am more interested in seeing Gunnerson, who I believe is also a similar player with more physicality to his game.

Agree, I'm looking forward to seeing more of him. This is the most excited I've been for a training camp in years and I'm going to miss it.
