My opinion is no one trades legit number 1 centers. The only way you get them is to suck, pick at the top of the draft and develop them

or have the league conspire to give you one so your team doesn't move to Kansas City

Anze Kopitar is consider a #1 Center - he was drafted # 11... you can get lucky and get a guy after the 5th overall pick. you just have to know how to use those picks...

I think Zib can be a #1C - 65+ points per season. He has all the tools. he just needs to put them together. i would also point out that he is 23!! still learning/growing.

Not surprising though for a guy who probably still has rabbit ears on his tv.

hopefully Zib starts hitting the next more, especially on the powerplay

I think a supreme passer manning the right handed point like Shattenkirk is going to do wonders, getting the puck to Zib so he can attempt those blasts

yes exactly!!! i remember watching Pirri and Zib on the PP receive crap passes not in the sweat spot and just having to pass it back. If Shatty can provide some nice sweat spot passes Zib's goal total should sky rocket.

What do all those players have in common bud? All on the teams that drafted them.

Teams do not move #1 centers like that. Go back to playing NHL17. I love this sentiment from people like my uncle "Why can't they go out and get a #1 center"

Same reason the NY Jets can't just "go out and get a franchise QB." That is not how it works, like, at all.

I don't play NHL17, should I start? Maybe a team with 2 "#1's" would be willing to trade one. Or you get lucky with a Seguin like mentioned before.

I just scrolled back through Stanley Cup winners. Take one (frank)ing guess which is the last team to win the cup with a #1 center they didn't draft...

My NHL 16 team has Ovechkin, Oshie and Shattenkirk (they got Eric Staal in compensation) and I traded a first round pick and JT Miller for Draisaitl. I also grabbed Brendan Smith and gave them Klein.

I said trade McD last year for a #1 center. You don't win in this league without one. Bottom line. Period. End of story. We don't have one and with some promising young guys in the system on the left I'd be willing to go with Skjei Smith Holden for a year until one of them is ready to step into a 3rd pair role.
- nyrangers9479

MANY teams don't win in this league either, without having a #1 defensive d'man.
You cannot possibly think for a second that the Rangers would have won the Cup in 1994 without having that type in Brian Leetch (+ his top offensive game), in being paired with Zubov (who is similar to a Shatty).
Teams do not win Cups in today's game without having TOP BALANCED defensemen all around. They will worry about re-signing McDonagh beginning once the season ends, or else, why did they just sign Shatty in the first place? By your plan, they would have opted for a complete REBUILD instead.

Skjei.
- nyrangers9479

If Skjei is going to be employed as the defender against the opposition's top forward line, then how is he going to be also counted on to provide the offense that he is counted on to produce, in leading it from the back line? Remember, you also did not want them to sign Shatty INITIALLY AT ALL, due to his defensive issues, although he is a +17 in his regular season career. Then you became convinced of his need here today, and said, which we all agree, that it was the term length concern, had he not given the Rangers the 3 years shorter term discount.

Would you trade Skjei in a package for a #1 center?
- nyrangers9479

Of those players realistically available, I would not have traded Skjei in any package, including to acquire Trouba, even unknowing if we would be ever able to sign Shatty.

I thought the Rangers would trade Stepan and they did
- nyrangers9479

They had no choice in knowing that they needed to sign Shatty to have any chance, and literately, any SHOT to contend under Hank.
In effect, excluding those others cap differences involved both ways, including their #7 overall pick in Andersson when he signs, they had really traded Stepan for Shatty.

Jimbo is a runaway train, no stopping it.
- JRR1285

Tell Jimbo that he better stop his runaway train slowly, before he reaches the tracks in Penn Station below the Garden, (with it going under its' "Summer Of Hell" track renovations), all just to hold up his "Don't Trade McDonagh" banner. I think he has felt his "Summer Of Hell" on this site alone, making him board as engineer of his runaway train.
